1. Discuss the following phrases:

1.1 Teaching as a profession


-  is the specialized application of knowledge, skills and attributes designed to
provide unique service to meet the educational needs of the individual and of society. The
choice of learning activities whereby the goals of education are realized in the school is the
responsibility of the teaching profession.
1.2 Teaching as a vocation
- teaching as a vocation, they teach with dedication. A teacher who
practices teaching as his vocation responds to the strong feeling, or calling, for service,
just like the historic biblical figures, with utmost dedication.
1.3 Teaching as a mission
- Teaching is your mission means it is the task entrusted to you in this world. •
Every teacher has its own unique mission, purpose, or objective that they need to accomplish. •
We are expected to contribute to the betterment of this world in your own unique way
2. How can teachers contribute to the following challenges in public
education?

2.1 poor reading comprehension skills OF STUDENTS


- There are 5 strategies to support students who struggles in
comprehension: Target overall comprehension of language, teach
vocabulary, teach thinking strategies, have students practice reciprocal
teaching, directly teach comprehension skills.

2.2 learners’ addiction to online games


- Good information presented by peers in a nonthreatening way might
help. Just getting students to be aware of what they are missing with their
abuse of technology would be helpful. A student group could creatively promote
a survey in which students could track their use of technology - then see
firsthand how much time they're spending
2.3 poor Science and Mathematics achievement
- developing positive attitude, motivation and proper guidance toward
science and mathematics, provision of qualified and adequately trained teachers,
using child-centered approaches in teaching science and mathematics, provision
of adequate teaching materials, provision of more classrooms and furniture,
provision of libraries and mathematical and science laboratories, proper
supervision and inspection of teachers, developing good school-community
relationship and, adoption and use of computer assisted instruction are some of
the ways of improving science and mathematics performance among students
2.4 poor communication competence
- given the interpersonal communication an important role starting
from the three-part interpretation of the hypotheses of three worlds: physical,
psychological and cultural. The most important realization is that our personality
communicates with the others via the module of liaison brain following the
principles of geometric progression and that it continues to develop throughout
life which means that we learn communication by communicating. This is a
circular dynamic process which begins with birth and ends with death.
Therefore, it is never too late to learn how to communicate, to correct, improve
and develop one's communication skills. Points out that those who lead others
(managers, teachers) should be ethical and moral in their relationships. They

should keep to the basic human values: truth, non-violence, love, peace and
right conduct (morality).
2.5 negative attitude of teachers
- Teachers' attitudes can help or hurt student motivation, achievement and well-
being. Recent studies found that negative teacher attitudes can impair academic achievement
and increase students' psychological disorders and physical symptoms of stress.
2.6 lack of parents’ support and involvement

-parents are engaged in their children’s school lives, students


have the home support and knowledge they need to not only
finish their assignments, but also develop a lifelong love of
learningTeachers who focus on parent engagement often see a
profound change in their classrooms. The more parents involved
in their children’s education, the better their entire class’s
motivation, behavior, and grades become. Encouraging parent
engagement is more than common courtesy. It’s one of the best
ways to create a positive learning environment for every
student.

2.7 lack of instructional materials


- Teachers have been found to have difficulties in selecting and
using instructional materials for teaching. 0art of the difficulties has been
that teachers tend to teach the way they were taught in their training.

purchased, locally made, imported or even improvised when necessary
for effective instructional delivery.

2.8 incompetent teachers


- Teacher incompetence is a major issue that faces many school systems,
students and parents. The theory of incompetence states that personality flaws are at the
root of an educator's incompetence and that an incompetent educator is simply not suited
to teaching.
2.9 crowded classrooms
- crowded Classroom is a problem all over the world for effective
teaching and learning process. Several studies made in the world
supports this fact. teacher work- loads created stressful working
conditions for teachers and led to higher teacher absenteeism.
2.10 poor or lack of instructional/educational technology
- Abstract Today, more than ever, the role of educational
technology in teaching is of great importance because of
the use of information and communication technologies.
With the help of various applications for
distance education, the Internet, teachers, and students themselves, they
see the advantage of educational technology.

2.11 poor health and nutrition of learners

- Schools play an important role in helping students establish healthy


eating behaviors, by providing:
 Nutritious and appealing foods and beverages.
 Consistent and accurate messages about good nutrition.
 Ways to learn about and practice healthy eating.1
Nutrition education is a vital part of a comprehensive health education program
and empowers children with knowledge and skills to make healthy food and
beverage choices

3. Based on your observation, what are the common violations of teachers


based on the provisions of the Professional Code of Ethics for Teachers?
- unethical conduct violations for this standard include, but are not limited to
the misusing of public or school-related funds or property; failing to account for funds collected
from students or parents; submitting fraudulent requests for reimbursement of expense or for
pay; and co-mingling public or school .
4. Why is there a need for a comprehensive, intensive and continuous
teacher training and development? Cite specific examples and support.
