I. Preliminaries: Student must have read the article “Bridging the communication gap between
Generation Y and the Baby Boomer generation” by Venter and watched “How to get serious
about diversity and inclusion in the workplace” by Stovall.
II. Assessment: To understand how these generations vary in preferences and communication
in the workplace, Frayer Model is used to tackle more ideas in a simplified manner. Frayer
Model examines one topic in four categories (definition, characteristics/facts, examples, non-
examples).
A. Individual Work:
1. Ask 1 Baby Boomer (1944 to 1964) and 1 Generation Y (1980-1994) that you know:
Requirement: GenY and Baby Boomer must come from the same/similar industry of work. They
do not necessarily need to be workmates. (e.g. Tourism, Education, Medicine, etc.)
Example: Baby Boomer works in St. Lukes as a Nurse while Gen Y works in Capitol Medical
Center as a MedTech. They have different work but same field (Medicine).
Question: What if they are workmates? – Okay.
What if they came from same field? They have same work? – Okay too.
What is not okay? – If they are from different industries (e.g. Technology & Medicine)
