Assessment Task 1

Answer.1
• 1: You must write in sentences.
• 2: Subjects and verbs in sentences must agree with each other.
• 3: You must use appropriate punctuation.
• 4: You must use the right vocabulary.
• 5: You must use the apostrophe correctly and with care.

Answer.2
Punctuation shows how the sentence should be read and makes the meaning clear.
Every sentence should include at least a capital letter at the start, and a full stop,
exclamation mark or question mark at the end.

Answer.3
Use commas in a series of three or more items.
Use a comma to separate two or more coordinate adjectives.

Answer.4

As you can see, a semicolon is a period above a comma. It is interesting to note that
fact, because it is actually quite a good explanation of how a semicolon function. It is
weaker than a period, but stronger than a comma.

Whereas a period indicates a full stop and a comma indicates a slight pause, the
semicolon indicates a pause that is greater than a comma, but not as great as a period.
It is a sort of “super-comma.

Answer.5

• Plain language gets your message across in the shortest time possible.
• More people are able to understand your message.
• There is less chance that your document will be misunderstood, so you spend less
time explaining it to people. And if your document gives instructions, your readers
are more likely to understand them and follow them correctly.

Answer.6

The active voice describes a sentence where the subject performs the action stated by the
verb. It follows a clear subject + verb + object construct that's easy to read. In fact,
sentences constructed in the active voice add impact to your writing.
Example: Harry ate six shrimp at dinner.

With passive voice, the subject is acted upon by the verb. It makes for a murky, roundabout
sentence; you can be more straightforward with active voice. As such, there are many ways
to change the passive voice to the active voice in your sentences.
Example: At dinner, six shrimp were eaten by Harry

Answer.7

Simple Sentence

A simple sentence has the most basic elements that make it a sentence: a subject, a verb,
and a completed thought.

Example: Joe waited for the train.

Compound Sentence

A compound sentence refers to a sentence made up of two independent clauses (or

complete sentences) connected to one another with a coordinating conjunction. Coordinating
conjunctions are easy to remember if you think of the words "FAN BOYS":

Example: Joe waited for the train, but the train was late.

Complex Sentence

A complex sentence is made up of an independent clause and one or more dependent

clauses connected to it. A dependent clause is similar to an independent clause, or complete
sentence, but it lacks one of the elements that would make it a complete sentence.

Example:

▪ because Mary and Samantha arrived at the bus station before noon
▪ while he waited at the train station
▪ after they left on the bus

Answer. 8

The assignment’s purpose, audience, and tone dictate what the paragraph covers and how it
will support one main point. This section covers how purpose, audience, and tone affect
reading and writing paragraphs.

The purpose for a piece of writing identifies the reason you write a particular document.
Basically, the purpose of a piece of writing answers the question “Why?” For example, why
write a play?

Answer. 9

• Consistency.
Create consistent, uniform documents for yourself, your team or across a whole
organisation
• Table of contents.
Use heading styles so Word can automatically create your table of contents for you.
• Appearance.
Change the appearance of a whole document very quickly .
• Streamline the export process.
Use Word styles to make the process of exporting your text into a desktop publishing
tool such as InDesign or an authoring tool such as Author-it, as painless as possible.
• Speed
Spend your time creating the content, not fiddling with the look and feel. Change the
formatting of your text with just one click. No need to revisit the ribbon multiple times
to apply font colour, size, type, paragraph spacing and indentation.

Answer. 10

WordArt:

Perhaps the most overused graphic that’s stuck into any Word document is WordArt.
This feature is almost too popular. If you haven’t used it yourself, you’ve probably
seen it in a thousand documents, fliers, and international treaties.

Paragraph:

The paragraph style contains both paragraph and text formatting attributes: indents,
tabs, font, text size — you name it. It’s the most common type of style.

BSBWRT401 Write complex documents Sanjeev Karki Student ID: 6201858

Answer. 11

Portrait or Landscape
Choice of portrait or landscape page format comes first. The landscape format allows for two
comfortably sized columns with or without a text box for notes but gets cumbersome if the
article fills more than one double-sided sheet. Because readers learn to turn pages
horizontally, they are less comfortable turning landscape pages over the top. The more
customary portrait format handles two columns without notes, or a single column plus a text
box for notes.
Column Width
It requires added attention to move from one line to the next without skipping or repeating
when the text runs more than 6” wide. At the same time, the standard newspaper column
width is unpleasantly narrow and has too many hyphens. Ideally, columns of text should be
3¼” to 4½” wide. On an 8½”x11” page, the landscape format allows room for two 4¼”
columns or two 3¼” wide columns with a 2½” space between them. The space between the
columns can then be used for a 2” wide text box that provides definitions, comments or
illustrations that help the reader understand.

Task 3

Answer. 1

Safe Manual Handling

This procedure should be read with the Work Health and Safety Policy. Manual handling is
any activity that involves lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, moving, holding or restraining. It
also includes sustained and awkward postures or repetitive movements. Good manual
handling techniques can help to prevent injury.

I am using handout for the safe manual handling. As an artist uses paint to create an image,
so a writer uses words to convey meaning. An incorrectly used word or phrase may destroy
the meaning the writer is trying to make. This section deals with the correct use of words,
including negative words, subject and verb agreement, pronoun agreement, and commonly
confused words. Click on the category to see or download the worksheets which are free for
you to use at home or in the classroom.

To explain the safe manual handling to the worker or staff I am going to use Microsoft Word.
In this article, you can learn about the various uses of Microsoft Word in your daily life. A
complete guide so you can be able to use Microsoft Word. Microsoft word is powerful,
proven and professional application software. Microsoft Word application is the easiest word
processing program developed by Microsoft.

I am going to cover the following points in my safe manual handling document:

• .Lift and carry heavy loads correctly by keeping the load close to the body and lifting
with the thigh muscles.
• Never attempt to lift or carry loads if you think they are too heavy.
• Pushing a load (using your body weight to assist) will be less stressful on your body
than pulling a load.
• Use mechanical aids or get help to lift or carry a heavy load whenever possible.
• Organise the work area to reduce the amount of bending, twisting and stretching
required.
• Take frequent breaks.
• Cool down after heavy work with gentle, sustained stretches.
• Improve your fitness – exercise regularly to strengthen muscles and ligaments, and
reduce excess body fat.

23
BSBWRT401 Write complex documents Sanjeev Karki Student ID: 6201858

• Warm up cold muscles with gentle stretches before engaging in any manual work.

Safe manual handling is very important for all business. It doesn’t matter either it is small
business or big business. Injuries can occur from a number of different tasks – such as
sitting for too long, doing the same task again and again, over-reaching and handling heavy
items – and they can have long-term, costly impacts on your workers and your business.

A manual task involves using your body to lift, lower, push, pull, carry or otherwise move,
hold or restrain any person, animal or thing. Most jobs involve carrying out some type of
manual tasks, but not all of them are hazardous.

A manual task becomes hazardous when one or more of the following risk factors are
present:

• repetitive or sustained force

• high or sudden force
• repetitive movement
• sustained or awkward posture
• vibration

As I have done the safe manual handling document as a project officer. Can you please
have a quick look and feedback me. Then I can do the finalized and give it to you as final
