1. Prerequisites: This subject requires the knowledge of Concrete Technology, Basic Materials
Testing Lab and Geo-Tech Engineering for understanding the concepts of Laboratory
Experiments.

2. Course Overview: The purpose of this course is to Conduct Laboratory Experiments on

Cement, Fresh Concrete, Hardened Concrete, Aggregates, Bituminous Materials and Soil Sample.

The Topics Covered in the subject provide the QA/QC checks for all the Materials used for
different types of Road Construction in practice and helpful in providing the results and Remarks
as per IS/IRC Classifications for Safe Design of Road Construction.

Relevance to this programme: The topics learned will provide the basic skill required for the
students to solve problems on Highway Construction that are likely to appear in professional
practice and future studies.

3. Course Outcomes:

The student should be able to:

1. Draw the conclusions based on the analysis & interpretation of results through various tests
on cement sample by investigation.

2. Analyze and interpret the results obtained from the tests conducted on fresh concrete for its
use in construction industry.

3. Design the mix of concrete for the field and various applications from compressive and
tensile strength of the hardened concrete.

4. Investigate the properties of bituminous materials and mixes for the design of the
pavement.

5. Distinguishes different sizes and shapes of aggregate particles and their effect in
construction with respect to the strength, Impact and Abrasion

6. Decide the thickness of the pavement from the density of soil ,by the tests conducted on the
given soil sample.

4. Application: The student will have the knowledge of Road construction materials, their uses,
benefits, Design etc.
