DISHARGE PLAN FOR GENERAL ANXIETY DISORDER

Medication

-Diazepam 5-10 mg take as needed

- fluoxetine 20 mg/day

Environment

- Teach the client calming/ relaxation skills (e.g., applied relaxation, progressive muscle relaxation, cue
controlled relaxation; mindful breathing; biofeedback) and how to discriminate better between
relaxation and tension

- teach the client how to apply these skills to his/her daily life

-Instruct the SO to be patient and be mindful of not placing too many demands on them.

-Promote an understanding of the features of an anxiety disorder.

-Help the patient to set realistic goals

-Discuss and establish supportive resources following discharge with the patient and his/her family (e.g.
home-visit nursing, outpatient care, peer-support group

Treatment

-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

-Review the progress of treatment goals and encourage the patient to set new goals following discharge
