• The system is designed for:


 Fuel reception from the shore and fuel storage; the tanks are refilled due
to the pressure in the shore pipeline and gravitation force;
 Fuel transfer by Transfer Pumps;
 Fuel storage in Bunker tanks;
 Fuel settling in Settling tanks;
 Fuel purification by separators FO Purifiers and filling fuel Service tanks;
 Prevention of fuel overflow using the Overflow Tank and collection of
separation sludge in the Sludge Tank (common With the Bilge system);
• The fuel system operates on the heavy fuel oil (HFO) and marine diesel oil
(MDO). Low Sulfur (LS) HFO and MDO is also used in the FO system.

The system is designed for fuel bunkering from the shore, fuel storage
and transfer to MDO service systems. Low Sulfur (L.S.) MDO

• Switch the power supply 440 V for:
 MDO PURIFIER and Purifier
Feed Pump on the No 1 AC440V
FEEDER PANEL (use menu item

page MSB) by the MDO
PURIFIER circuit breaker.
• Before starting the separator, set the
AUTO fuel heating control Mode with
the FUEL OIL HEATER MODE

MDO PURIFIER OPERATION


• The separator separates water and solid particles from MDO at the
density of up to 7.5 g/mL at 40ºC located in settling tanks and
transfer the separated fuel to service tanks.

• The discharge from the separator enters the Sludge Tank; the level in

the tank is controlled by the High Level sensors.


• Microprocessor unit guarantees unmanned separator operation.
• The fuel is heated before the separation to decrease viscosity and
provide efficient separation.
• The heater unit is controlled by PID (Proportional Integral
Derivative) automatics or manually (see PID description in the
paragraph 1.3.3.1 on page 92 of the ERS 5000 2xMAN-BW 8L32-40
RoPax Ferry Trainee Manual).

MDO PURIFIER OPERATION


• Upon switching on the SUPPLY switch on the separator panel (power
supplied), the following three screens are consequently displayed on the
LCD within approximately 3 min:

MDO SERVICE TANK REPLENISHMENT PROCEDURE


1. Start the MDO TRANSFER PUMP to transfer diesel oil from the
MDO settling tank to the MDO service tank (the
“START/STOP” button).

2. Check pump operation using the pressure gauges on the suction


side (SUCTION) and the discharge side (DISCHARGE).
3. Check the fuel level in the MDO service tank.
4. Stop the pump in time to prevent overflow.

HFO PURIFIER OPERATION

HFO SETTLING TANK REPLENISHMENT PROCEDURE


1. Turn ON the heating of the HFO bunker in due time to provide for its
normal transfer.

2. Turn ON the heating of the fuel pipelines by the “TRACING” button.

3. Set the HFO TRANSFER PUMP suction switch to the required


position i.e From Bunker or From Spill Tank.
4. Start the HFO TRANSFER PUMP (the “START/STOP” button).
5. Check pump operation using the pressure gauges on the suction side
(SUCTION) and the discharge side (DISCHARGE).
6. Check the level in the HFO settling tank.
7. Stop the pump in time to prevent overflow.
8. Turn ON the fuel pipeline heating using the “TRACING” button.

HFO SERVICE TANK REPLENISHMENT PROCEDURE


9. Turn ON the heating of the HFO settling tank in due time to
provide for it’s normal transfer.
10. Drain sludge.

11. Set the separator suction switch (SUCTION) to the FROM


SETTLE position.
12. Set the separator discharge switch (DISCHARGE) to the TO
SERVICE position.
13. Turn ON the heating of the fuel to be treated.
14. Start the separator(s) – please see the page OFS.
15. Check the fuel level in the HFO service tank and stop the
separator in time to prevent overflow.
16. Turn OFF the heating of the separated fuel.
