Definitions of Commercial Art

 The art of creative services such as advertising, animation, decorative arts, fashion,
visual design, logo design, graphic design, visual branding, promotion, ornamentation
and display window.
 Art created for commercial and advertising or marketing purposes.

Characteristics of Commercial Art


 Uses magazines, apps, websites, television, etc. as platforms to promote sales and
interests of products, ideas and services.
 Uses iconic images that are recognized easily to enhance recall and favorable
recognition for a product or service.
 Uses complementary colors, a catchy message, and appealing illustrative features.
 It communicates to audiences who are potential consumers of products.
Kinds of Commercial art
1. Promotion and Advertising.
Paintings, photographs, illustrations and media are used to raise awareness, interest,
recognition and enthusiasm for the products, brands or services to generate demands and sales.

2. Visual Branding
It is giving a unique identity for a brand such as primary visual (logo) symbol of brand, style and
appearance of text(typography), shapes of products and packaging, abstract symbols that
represent the brand, colors and its symbols, materials used, finish, composition and layout of
advertisements, personalities and characters, and distinctive location or flagship

3. Illustration
A decoration, visual explanation or interpretation of a text, concept or process that are designed
for print materials such as posters, magazines, flyers, teaching materials, books and non-print
materials like animations, video games and films to make it more user-friendly. It is created
by an illustrator.

4. Graphic Design
The art, profession and academic discipline projecting visual communications  to transmit
specific messages to social groups. An interdisciplinary branch of design. The foundations and
objectives revolve in defining the problems and objectives for decision-making using innovation,
creativity and lateral thinking. It uses digital tools and transforming them for proper
interpretation. Commonly known as visual design, visual communication design or editorial
design.

5. Industrial design
A process of design applied to products that are to be manufactured through mass
production. The design precedes manufacture. It is a creative act of determining and defining
a product's form, which consists purely of repeated, automated replication. It can be conducted
by an individual or a team with varied expertise like industrial designers, engineers, and business
experts. Influenced by different factors such as materials, production
processes, business strategy, and prevailing social, commercial, or aesthetic attitudes.
Focuses on a combination of aesthetics and user-focused considerations. Provides solutions for
problems of form, function, marketing, physical ergonomics, brand development, sales,
and sustainability.

6. Motion graphic design


It is a subset of graphic design. It uses graphic design principles in
a filmmaking or video production context using animation or filmic techniques.
It is used in the film industry, create videos and cartoons. The examples of motion graphic
design are kinetic typography, graphics used in film and television opening sequences the
spinning, three-dimensional station identification logos of some television channels
and animated a logo or text.

7. Photography
The art, application, and practice of creating durable images through the use of recording
light, electronically (using image sensor) or chemically (using light-sensitive material
like photographic film). It is utilized in different fields of science, manufacturing, business,
as well as film and video production, mass communication, recreational purposes, and hobby.

8. Television commercials
Also known as television commercial, commercial, advert, TV advert or simply an ad. It is a span
of television programming produced and paid by an organization to promote and market a
product or service. 

9. Music videos
It is a short film that incorporates a song  with imagery
for promotional and artistic purposes. MVs are used in tie-in marketing campaigns and
merchandising for toys or for food or other products that allow them to become more than just
a song. MVs use a wide range of styles and techniques such as animation, documentary,
live action,  and non-narrative approaches or abstract film. Many music videos interpret
images and scenes from the song's lyrics, thematic approach, may not have any concept or
being only a filmed version of the song's live concert performance.

10. Animation
It is a method of manipulation to make moving images. Very popular in television commercials
because of its graphic appeal and the humor it provides. Animated characters in commercials
survived for decades are Snap, Crackle and Pop in advertisements of Kellogg's cereals
and the first Raid "Kills Bugs Dead" in 1966 that for the company very successful.

11. Computer art


Art which computers play a role in the production of artwork like image, animation,
website, sound, video, video game, performance and gallery installation, and
algorithm.

12. Fashion designer
The art of applying aesthetics and design, clothing construction and natural beauty
to clothing and its accessories. Most clothing worn for everyday wear has a narrow range
of conventional styles and unusual garments are for special occasions. Most clothing is designed
for the mass market, like casual and every-day wear are called ready to wear.
13. Decorative Art
These are arts or crafts whose main objective is to design and manufacture objects that are
beautiful and functional like ceramic art, various forms of textile arts,
metalwork, furniture, jewelry, fashion and glassware.
