What is It
5
How do we know if a number is divisible by 11 and 12? Here are the
rules:
Example:
(a)1 364
1+6=7
3+4=7
7-7=0
(b) 3 729
3+2=5
7 + 9 = 16
16 - 5 = 11
(c) 13 926
1 + 9 + 6 = 16
3+2=5
16 - 5 = 11
6
The difference of the sum of the alternating digits is 11. The
number 11 is divisible by 11. Therefore, the number is divisible by
11. 13 926 divided by 11 is 1 266
(d) 12 181
1+1+4=6
2 + 8 = 10
10 - 6 = 4
Example:
(a) 696
6 + 9 + 6 = 21
21 ÷ 3 = 7
696 is divisible by 3
96 ÷ 4 = 24
The last two digits of the number 696 which is 96, is divisible
by 4
(b) 5 736
5 + 7 + 3 + 6 = 21
21 ÷ 3 = 7
7
5 736 is divisible by 3
36 ÷ 4 = 9
(c) 1 764
1 + 7 + 6 + 4 = 18
18 ÷ 3 = 6
1 764 is divisible by 3
64 ÷ 4 = 16
(d) 2 416
2 + 4 + 1 + 6 = 13
13 is not divisibly by 3
