Rationale

Project PPE (Portfolio Predicate on Exemplar) is a backup contingency response

of the Schools Division of Surigao del Sur for learning delivery and learning
resource which parallel to the on-going endeavors of the higher offices in the
Department. It is the utilization of a lesson exemplar that is streamlined in a
teacher-and-learner-friendly format to cater to the new classroom setup in light
of the COVID-19 health crisis. These exemplars will be paired with a self-
contained and self-instructional portfolio.

The portfolio is a deliberate collection of works that highlight a learner’s effort

that would enable the him/her to see his/her growth and achievement, ability to
reflect on his/her own work and ability to establish goals for future learning.

Introductory Message

For the teacher:

Welcome to the (Mathematics - 5 - First Quarter) Exemplar on ( Divisibility

Rules )!

This exemplar was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by

educators from different schools in the Division to assist you in helping the
learners meet the standards anchored on Most Essential Learning Competencies
(MELC) set by the Department while overcoming the constraints in schooling
brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.

This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and
independent learning activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this
also aims to help learners acquire the needed 21st century skills while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.

As a teacher, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this
exemplar in the most fit modality. You also need to keep track of the learners'
progress while allowing them to manage their own learning through portfolio
assessments.

For the learner:

Welcome to the (Mathematics - 5 - First Quarter) _ Exemplar on _( Divisibility

Rules ) !

This exemplar was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful
opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace and time.

2
You will be enabled to process the contents of the learning resource while being
an active learner, either at home or in school. To help you with this, this exemplar
comes with a Weekly Portfolio Assessment. Your teacher will provide you with a
template and you will be given a privilege to organize the portfolio in your own
creative way.

4
What I Know

A. Directions: Mark if the number given is divisible by 11 and

mark if it is not. Do this on a separate sheet.

______ 1. 55
______ 2. 79
______ 3. 330
______ 4. 1 034
______ 5. 534

B. Directions: Mark if the number given is divisible by 12 and

mark if it is not. Do this on a separate sheet.

______ 1. 480
______ 2. 1068
______ 3. 696
______ 4. 1 287
______ 5. 936

What is It

A number is divisible by another number if the result when divided is a

whole number. For instance, 8 when divided to 2, the quotient is 4. 4 is a
whole number, therefore, 8 is divisible by 2.

Also, when a number is divided by a second number and the

remainder is zero, then the first number is said to be divisible by the second
number. The second number is called a divisor or a factor of the first number.

5
How do we know if a number is divisible by 11 and 12? Here are the
rules:

1. A number is divisible by 11, if the difference of the sum of the digits

in the odd places and the sum of those in the even places is 0 or is
divisible by 11.

Example:

(a)1 364

1 364 Add the alternating digits

1+6=7
3+4=7

7-7=0

The difference of the sum of the alternating digits is 0.

Therefore, the number is divisible by 11. 1 364 divided by 11 is 124.

(b) 3 729

3 729 Add the alternating digits

3+2=5
7 + 9 = 16

16 - 5 = 11

The difference of the sum of the alternating digits is 11. It is

divisible by 11, therefore, the number is divisible by 11. 3 729
divided by 11 is 29.

(c) 13 926

13 926 Add the alternating digits

1 + 9 + 6 = 16
3+2=5

16 - 5 = 11

6
The difference of the sum of the alternating digits is 11. The
number 11 is divisible by 11. Therefore, the number is divisible by
11. 13 926 divided by 11 is 1 266

(d) 12 181

12 184 Add the alternating digits

1+1+4=6
2 + 8 = 10

10 - 6 = 4

The difference of the sum of the alternating digits is 4. It is

not divisible by 11. Therefore, the number is not divisible by 11.

2. A number is divisible by 12 if it is divisible by both 3 and 4.

Example:

(a) 696

6 + 9 + 6 = 21
21 ÷ 3 = 7

696 is divisible by 3

96 ÷ 4 = 24

The last two digits of the number 696 which is 96, is divisible
by 4

The number 696 is divisible by both 3 and 4. Therefore the

number it is divisible by 12.

(b) 5 736

5 + 7 + 3 + 6 = 21
21 ÷ 3 = 7

7
5 736 is divisible by 3

36 ÷ 4 = 9

The last two digits of the number 5736 which is 36, is

divisible by 4

The number 5 736 is divisible by both 3 and 4. Therefore it is

divisible by 12.

(c) 1 764

1 + 7 + 6 + 4 = 18
18 ÷ 3 = 6

1 764 is divisible by 3

64 ÷ 4 = 16

The last two digits of the number 1 724 which is 24 is

divisible by 4

The number 1 724 is divisible by both 3 and 4. Therefore it is

divisible by 12.

(d) 2 416

2 + 4 + 1 + 6 = 13
13 is not divisibly by 3

2 416 is not divisible by 3

The last two digits of the number 2 416 which is 16 is

divisible by 4

The number 1 724 is divisible by 4 but is not divisible by 3.

Therefore it is NOT divisible by 12.
