1. PROJECT DESCRIPTION
1.1 General
The Merangin Hydroelectric Power Project is located on the southwestern slope of
the Barisan Range in Sumatra Island in the Republic of Indonesia. The project site is
situated approximately 400 km west southwest of Kotamadya Jambi, the capital of Jambi
Province and 260 km southeast of Kotamadya Padang, the capital of West Sumatra
Province as shown on Figure 1.1. The project location is accessible from Sungai Penuh,
the capital of District Kerinci from the northwest and from east Bangko, which is on the
national highway connecting North and South Sumatra.
Project
Location
44 km², full supply level El. 783.4, and has 2 outlets; one is natural outlet at
Sanggaranagung and the other is man-made outlet sited approximately 1 km south of the
natural out and excavated in 1928. Water in Kerinci Lake will be controlled by a
regulating weir to be constructed at the man-made outlet and will be released to the intake
dam site, located about 28 km downstream of the lake, through the upper reach of the
Merangin River to be excavated in a distance of about 5.5 km from the lake.
Installed capacity and annual energy output of the Project are expected at 350 MW
and 1,360 GWh consisting of peak and base energy of 766.5 GWh and 593.5 GWh,
respectively.
