Research Plan

Research Question: Who were the primary influences involved during the Constitution

Convention?

Introduction

As conflict and tension grew between the colonies and England, difference of opinion

ultimately leaded the two nations to go to war. The battle known as the American War of

Independence made delegates of the U.S colonies rethink the current government. Who were the

major influences to change our government and what lead them to this change? Though our

founding fathers had great compromise and faced obstacles from state leaders, they were able to

form a governing document that would lead the people of the United States.

Historical Context:

The nations first commander and chief, George Washington, had many influences on the

drafting of the U.S Constitution. However George Washington was not president at the time, but

his leadership ability made great impressions during the U.S Constitutional Conventions.

Washington had such an affect on others that William Grayson said, “ But we can expect his

fame to be immortal. We wish to know, who besides him, can concentrate the confidence and

affections of all America (Larson, 2016).” George Washington long had this leadership ability as

many others like John Jay, Hamilton, and Madison. Washington wrote to John Jay in agreeance

for change to be made. “ I coincide perfectly in sentiment with you, my dear Sir, that there are

errors in our National Government which call for correction; loudly I will add (University of

Virginia Press, n.d.).”

Impact of Historical Context:

PROJECT 2 3

As the drafting of the U.S Constitution took place it was not with out great influence and

strife. George Washington and other founding fathers knew existing documents wouldn’t suffice

for the longevity they were intended for. Washington led with honesty and perseverance to make

a governing document that would lead the people of the United States. This document would be

by the people and for the people of the United States of America.
