The social and emotional learning (SEL) community is the group of people or stakeholders in
charge of developing and implementing frameworks for successfully teaching students using
SEL. Social and emotional learning involves applying the information, behaviors, and skills
required to understand concepts. It enables them to control their emotions, set and achieve
positive goals, feel and show empathy towards others, and develop and sustain positive
relationships with everyone(Denham 3). Therefore, since social and emotional learning heavily
relies on the environment, a community of people must be created to facilitate learning through
social and emotional learning. A Social and Emotional Learning community generally comprises
policymakers, assessment tool developers, and program development leaders. Policymakers are
mainly in charge of developing standards, guidance, and frameworks for the successful
implementation of social and emotional learning in schools and ensuring that resources are
invested and distributed equitably amongst all schools so that all children can directly benefit
from equitable education through SEL (Denham 6). Secondly, assessment tool developers are
generally in charge of creating assessment tools with different developmental tasks for different
age groups that participate in social and emotional learning and address all other issues that arise
from assessment tasks. Lastly, program development leaders evaluate existing programs and
assessment tasks to ascertain whether they should be reviewed and propose new methods for
assessing students learning abilities. Overall, the social and emotional learning community helps
schools and parents provide the best learning conditions to help children learn.
