<대학원>
1. 연혁 및 특성
❍ 서강대학교 대학원은 1968년 3월 개교한 이래 지난 460여년 간 이어져온 예수
회 가톨릭 세계관에 기초한 교육이념을 바탕으로 학문 이론의 탐구 및 응용 방법
을 연구 교수하는 동시에 지도적 인격의 도야와 독창력 함양을 이루도록 해오고
있습니다.
❍ 서강대학교 대학원은 서강대학교 교훈의 하나인 “Obedire Veritati(진리에 순종
하라)"라는 라틴어 경구의 정신 아래 25개 학과의 석사학위과정 및 박사학위 과
정과 6개의 학과간 협동과정을 개설하여 정진해 나아가고 있습니다. 또한 1992년
한국화학연구소 및 한국과학기술연구원과 학·연 협동연구 석·박사학위과정 개설
을 위한 협약을 체결하였고 현재까지 8개 연구원과 협약을 맺고 있습니다. 1972
년부터는 신촌지역에 있는 서강, 연세, 이화 3대학원간 학점교환제 및 가톨릭대
학교, 국방대학교와의 학점교환제를 실시하여 폭넓은 학문의 개방과 도서자료 등
의 상호 보완적인 활용이 이루어지도록 하고 있습니다.
❍ 현재 약 1,000여명의 재학생이 석사 및 박사학위 과정에 재학중이며, 지금까지
배출된 학위수여자 수가 2019년 현재 석사 12,000여명과 박사 1,900여명에 이르
고 있어 대학원 교육이 더욱 중요해 지고 있는 시점에서 시대적 요구에 부응하고
있습니다.

<국제대학원>
1. 연혁
❍ 서강대학교 국제대학원은 국제 전문 인력 양성을 위한 한국 정부의 지원으로 1997년에
설립되었습니다. 서강대 국제대학원 학생들은 세계화 시대의 새로운 도전과 기회에 열
린 마음과 균형 잡힌 시각으로 대응할 수 있는 인재로 성장하고 있습니다.
❍ 설립 이래 서강대 국제대학원은 소수 정예의 전문가를 양성하는 데 집중하고 있습니다.
학생들은 국제관계, 국제통상, 국제금융, 한국·동아시아학 분야에서 전문적인 능력을
갖추고 사회에 진출하게 됩니다. 서강대학교 국제대학원의 모든 수업은 영어로 진행되
며, 세계 각국에서 온 다양한 학생들이 함께 공부하고 있습니다.

❍ 서강대학교 대학원의 수업 연한은 석사 2년, 박사 2년입니다.
❍ 세부전공 분야로 모집하는 학과를 지원하는 경우에는 입학원서 입력 시 전공분
야를 반드시 명기하여야 합니다.
❍ 종교학과 지원자는 대학 또는 대학원에서 종교학 전공 또는 부전공한 학생을
원칙으로 하며, 타 전공자는 사전에 종교학과장과 상담 후 지원하여야 합니다.
❍ 여성학 협동과정은 여성관련 단체 유경험자를 우대합니다.
❍ 학과간협동과정에서 과학커뮤니케이션, 여성학, 동남아시아학은 인문사회계열

3.지원자 유의사항
<대학원>
❍ 대학원 이학 및 공학계열 학과, 국제한국학과 등을 제외한 인문사회계열 학과
의 경우 수업의 약 70~80% 이상이 한국어로 진행되는 경우가 많습니다. 1년간

 의 어학연수 후 토픽 3급을 취득하더라도, 대학원 과목을 수강하기 위해서는 높
은 수준의 한국어 능력을 필요로 합니다.
❍ 모든 제출 서류는 원본 1부와 복사본 1부를 같이 제출해야 합니다. (추천서는
원본 1부만 제출 가능)
<국제대학원>
❍ 국제대학원은 모든 수업이 영어로 진행되므로, 공인 영어 성적표(IETLS, TOEFL,
TOEIC, 또는 TEPS)를 반드시 제출해야 합니다. 단, 원어민이거나 공식 언어가 영어인
국가에 소재한 대학을 졸업한 지원자는 제출이 면제됩니다.

4.기타 안내사항
❍ 곤자가 기숙사
- 입사 신청: 정부초청장학생 신입생들은 대학원 행정팀을 통해 곤자가 기숙사에
입사신청을 할 수 있으며, 4개월과 6개월 단위로 신청이 가능합니다.
- 입주 시설: 2인 1실, 전화기 및 무선 인터넷 제공
- 기숙사비(2020년 기준)

기숙사비: 1,627,000원(식비 별도) 기숙사비: 2,394,000원(식비 별도)
* 기숙사 입사 시 보증금 10만원은 별도로 지불해야 하며, 퇴사시 환불됩니다.

<Graduate School>
1. History & Key Information
❍ Deeply rooted in the 460-year-old tradition of Jesuit education and its
Catholic vision of the world, the Graduate School of Sogang University was
founded in March of 1968 to foster leadership and the intellectual potential
of its students through the continuing education and research.
❍ Hence, in the spirit of the University’s motto, “Obedire Veritati (Be
obedient to the truth),” the Graduate School offers Masters and Ph.D.
programs from 25 departments and 6 interdisciplinary programs.
Furthermore, through employing an exchange program with other top-rated
universities in the city such as Yonsei University and Ewha Woman’s
University, it has widened its academic scope and resources. The Graduate
School has grown rapidly both in numbers of enrolled students and the
majors offered by way of continuously improving the quality of the
education offered, and opening new doors for collaborative study and
research with other prestigious schools and institutions.
❍ About 1,000 students are currently pursuing Masters and Doctoral degrees
at the Graduate School, and as of 2019, Sogang University has awarded
around 12,000 Masters degrees and 1,900 Doctoral degrees, the numbers
of which reflect the increasing importance of graduate education.

<Graduate School of International Studies>

1. History
❍ Sogang Graduate School of International Studies was established in 1997 as part
of a Korean government initiative to educate a new type of internationally astute
professional. These students represent a response to globalization: balanced,
open minds that are capable of meeting the new challenges and opportunities
presented by globalization.

 ❍ Since its establishment, Sogang GSIS has focused on educating a small number
of elite students. These students will go on to become experts in International
Relations, International Trade, International Finance or Korea and East Asia. All
classes of Sogang GSIS are conducted in English and GSIS has a lot of
international students from all over the world.

❍ If applying to a department that is recruiting a specific major, you must
specify your major when filling in the admissions application.
❍ Religious Studies Department applicants, as a rule, should be students
who majored or minored in theology in undergraduate or graduate school.
Students from other majors are required to have a preliminary consultation
with the Dean of the Religious Studies Department before applying.
❍ The Gender Studies Cooperative Program gives advantages to those with

3. Important Notes
<Graduate School>
❍ Since more than 70~80% of the courses in the Humanities and Social
Sciences departments are offered in Korean, fluency in Korean is required.
(Not including Departments in Natural Sciences, Engineering and Global
Korean Studies.) Even though you achieve TOPIK level 3 after one year of
Korean Language class, high level of Korean Language proficiency will be
needed to take courses in the Graduate School.
❍ Applicants must submit one original copy and one extra photocopy of all
required documents. (You can submit only one original copy of
Recommendation letter.)
<Graduate School of International Studies>
❍ Every course at Sogang GSIS is offered in English. So applicants need to submit
the official English test report (IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, or TEPS). However, it is
exempted for native English speakers or graduates from universities in English
speaking countries.

apply through the office. Students can choose staying for 6 months or 4

- NIIED students should obligatorily have insurance. NIIED students can
apply for the insurance at the graduate school office. One who already has
the private insurance doesn't have to apply again.
