2. 건학정신
❍ 교육구국-우리나라가 독립을 하려면 민족의 힘을 길러야 하고, 힘은 배움으로
구할 수 있다.
3. 설립자 소개
❍ 청주대학교의 설립자 청암(淸巖) 김원근(1886~1965), 석정(錫定) 김영근
(1888~1976) 형제는 어려서 고향 경주를 떠나 행상길에 나서 온갖 역경을 이겨
내고 도매업과 무역 등으로 마침내 큰 재산을 모았으나 일제 치하에서 우리나라가
독립을 하려면 민족의 힘을 길러야 하고, 힘은 곧 배움으로 구할 수 있다는 믿
음으로 모든 재산을 인재양성 사업에 바쳤다. 1924년 청석학원을 설립해 초등
학교에서 대학에 이르기까지 모두 7개의 학교를 세워 육영의 대전당을 이루었
으며, 이 같은 공로로 청암 선생은 1964년 문화훈장 국민장을, 석정 선생은
1970년 5.16민족상 교육부문 본상과 국민훈장 모란장을 수여받았다.

2. Foundation Philosophy
❍ The idea of saving the country through education - For our country to
become independent, we must develop national power, and power can
be saved by learning
3. About the Founders
❍ Cheongam Won-geun Kim(1886–965) and Seokjeong Yeong-geun Kim (1888–976),
who were brothers, left their hometown of Gyeongju at a young age and
overcame a series of obstacles and trials to acquire great wealth through
wholesale and trade businesses. Believing that the Korean nation must
foster the strength of Koreans to achieve independence from colonial
Japan and that power comes from education, they dedicated all their
resources to educate future talents. Since the foundation of Cheongseok
Academic Foundation in 1924, the brothers founded seven schools and
universities that constitute an expansive educational domain. For their
profound contributions, Cheongam received an Order of Merit for Culture
in 1964, and Seokjeong received an Education Award and an Order of
Civil Merit on May 16, 1970.

4. Characteristics of Cheongju University

❍ Top-notch Nature-friendly Global Campus
- The campuses of Cheong ju University, located around the outskirts of
the Uam Mountain, are filled with long and winding trails as well as
pleasant locations that are conducive for resting. Here, students may
study pleasurably while being one with nature. In addition, Cheongju
University is the first university in South Korea to adopt a geothermal
heating and cooling system, which provides heat to 13 buildings and
saves around KRW 400 million per year.

- Newly opened in 2 017 after the renovation, its worth KRW 35 billion,
CJU’s Central Library is operated based on cutting-edge smart technology.
In addition to a collection of 1.3 million books and a reading room that
can accommodate 2,400 people, and it has a variety of convenient
facilities for students, including a cafe teria, a roof top garden, a group
study room, an exhibition room, a cinema room, a multimedia room, and
a data search lounge.

- Cheongju University has established partnerships with 260 universities in
31 countries. Through its various exchange programs, including overseas
trainings, student exchange programs, language trainings in partner universities,
internships abroad, and short-term cultural training programs, it helps the
students expand their knowledge by being exposed to different cultures
around the world.

❍ Enhancing Global Competitiveness: Foreign Language Education Programs

- Led by the Division of Communication E ducation, the university provides
a variety of language training courses tailored for different languages and
students for years now. Foreign language education programs are taught
by native speakers from countries such as the US, Canada, the UK, New Zealand,
and China. During vacations, Cheongju University opens “English Camps.”
❍ Communication and Exchange beyond Borders: Foreign Student Support Services
- Through its advanced infrastructure and systemic educational programs for
foreign students, Cheongju University provides curricula dedicated to foreign
students, designated instructors, and the mentoring buddy program to promote
cultural exchanges between foreign and Korean students. In addition, the
Korean Language Education Center helps foreign students expand their

- The International Village, a symbol of the internationalization of Cheongju
University, is a state-of-the-art residential area with study rooms and
various convenient facilities for international students. With a total area of
12,288m², the village houses an international dormitory that is capable of
accommodating 732 students at a time, 40 apartment houses for foreign
professors, the International Education Center, and many other facilities.
❍ Aviation for a new dream in the age of aerospace
- Cheongju University offers specialized aviation education and training based on
its great accessibility and connection to the neighboring Cheongju International
Airport, the hub airport in the central region, Muan Airport, combat air fighter
squadrons, and aviation institutions and enterprises. The university operates
Flight Education School, an advanced specialist training institution under the
Ministry of Land, Transport, and Maritime Affairs and Aviation Technology Training
Institute for contemporary aviation maintenance training, and it continues to
expand its education systems, such as UAM Drone Research Center and
