Academic Honesty and Code of Conduct

Academic integrity violations are a very serious offense and is considered deception and
dishonesty. Additionally, the student who commits, while failing to understand and learn the
topic, has jeopardized their academic trust and faithfulness. Two examples of this are, but not
limited to, cheating off other students’ assignments, with or with out their consent, and
secondly stealing any work from a public domain and naming it ones own. Doing any of these
can lead to very serious negative outcomes, of which include expulsion from the institution. In
the event of cheating off pupils’ assignments, it is still considered cheating if both parties
knowingly allow the exchange of complete answers. In that case, both parties will be punished
for such actions, as it is plagiarism. In the second event, in which knowingly a student
unlawfully takes a writing or works from a public or private domain and calls it their own work
is a perfect example of plagiarism. For a more in-depth example, if a music student were to
submit a recording of another musician’s performance, with instead their own name over the
title, it would be full plagiarism without the knowledge of the musician.
In the topic of code and conduct, two major examples of violations would include being
a disruption by the means of hostility or offensive manner towards student, faculty, or staff,
and secondly any distribution of unprescribed drugs and uncontrolled substances on the
campus. These offenses are not taken lightly, can be punished with more than expulsion. For
example, if a student is disturbed and cannot control themselves, and attacks another student
or staff member, that is considered disruptive hostility. And on the other hand, if students are
caught selling illegal drugs to one another on campus, that is grounds for arrest.
Why Plagiarism?
Plagiarism is stealing the works of another person either with or with out their knowing
consent. It is deemed illegal and disrespectful by all institutions and law and should be avoided
as much as possible. It is the fastest way to lose trust in those around you.
There are world of reasons on why students decide to plagiarize, but 9 times out of 10,
it comes down to the fact that the student either didn’t understand the assignment and needed
to turn something in, they didn’t feel like investing time into it, or the student ran out of time. It
is very easy to get caught up in life, and run into any of these problems, and that is where it is
helpful to realize how time management can benefit all who are stressed. In some instances,
students do not realize that their writing is accidently so like another, and it is still considered
stealing. Some ways to avoid being penalized for plagiarism whether in a group or as an
individual include things like communicating what every person is writing, and making sure it is
completely different, or keeping up with doing work ahead of time, or a part of a timely
schedule. Getting things done early typically allow the student to have well thought out
statements and more concise assignments.
