Lesson plan - Chemistry

8th grade

TOPIC: Warta River water purity testing

Main aims:
Pupil:

- knows the chemical and physical properties of water,

- lists the sources of water pollution,

- indicates substances polluting surface waters,

- defines the role of water in nature,

- explains the state of waters in the area,

- explains the relationship between water quality and the number of living
organisms,

- sees signs of degradation of the natural environment,

- justifies the need to save water.

Skills

Applying skills in typical situations.

Pupil:

- determine the clarity of the water,

- compare the degree of contamination of individual water samples,

- determines the pH value of the water samples taken and the degree of
contamination,

- is able to draw conclusions from the conducted experiments.

D. Applying messages in problematic situations.

Pupil:

- foresees the effects of further excessive water pollution,

- proposes measures to improve water quality,

- assesses the purity of the tested waters

- selects and groups acquired messages.

Attitudes:

- belief in the need to protect water,

- shaping a proper attitude to the surrounding nature,

- making people aware of the dangers of contaminated water,

- awareness of co-responsibility for some cases of water poisoning

EDUCATION METHOD:

- viewing method - observation

- practical method - experience and interpretation of research results

WORK FORM:

-work on an equal front, individual work

TEACHING MEASURES:

Textbook:

"Chemia Nowej Ery 7" - textbook for the 7th grade of primary school

Teaching Aids:
Water samples taken from the river in two places, rainwater, laboratory
glass, universal indicator papers, work cards

THE COURSE OF THE LESSON:

1. INITIAL PHASE:

Checking the attendance list, checking the homework, brief revision of

knowledge from the previous lesson, referring to the lesson topic by the
teacher, providing a new lesson topic and entering it into notebooks

2. PROPER PHASE:

Selected students under the supervision of a teacher examine the

prepared water samples from the Warta River. The samples were taken
at the springs, a few kilometers away, and from the rainwater collected
earlier. Students test water purity, clarity, color and reaction. Together,
we edit the observations and conclusions, and write them down in
worksheets. The teacher briefly summarizes the collected conclusions
and observations. The students find out together where the water
pollution comes from and how to act to protect it.

SUMMARY PHASE 3: (duration: approx. 5 minutes)

- summary of the lesson by the teacher

- briefly consolidating the acquired knowledge and checking the

assimilation of new material by the teacher with the help of sample
questions from the lesson, addressed to randomly selected students,
e.g. what are the sources of water pollution? What can the
consequences of water pollution be? Etc.

- summary and evaluation of students' work

homework assignment:

- Think about how you can reduce water pollution in your city?
