” a gift to Brahmin priests “. The style of the script has been dated to the last half of the
4th century. It is believed these religions were brought to Indonesia around the 2 nd and 4th
centuries, respectively when Indian traders arrived on the island of Sumatra, Java, and
Sulawesi.

 In 674 CE Kalingga kingdom was ruled by Queen Shima, notorious for her fierce law
against thievery to encourage people to be honest and uphold absolute truth. According to
the tradition, one day a foreign king placed a bag filled with gold on the intersection in
Kalingga to test the famed truthful and honesty of Kalingga people. Nobody dared to
touch the bag that did not belong to them. Three years later, Shima’s son, the crown
prince accidently touched the bag with his feet. The Queen issued to death sentence to her
own son, but overruled by the minister that appealed the Queen to spare the prince’s life.
Since it was prince’s foot that touched the bag of gold, so it was the foot that had to be
punished through mutilation. After Maharani Shima died in 732 AD, the great
greatSanjaya (a great grandson of Queen Shima) replaced and becomed king of the
Kingdom of Northern Kalinga, later known as the EastMataram, and later founded the
dynasty / WangsaSanjaya in the Ancient Mataram Kingdom.
