Instrument Setup
1. Connect the Fluke-435 to the input power of the drive system
Using the test leads provided, make the following connections;
“GROUND” on the 435 to “PE” on the simulator using the shorting
adapter between the PE and N
“N” on the 435 to “N” (Neutral) on simulator through the adapter
“A/L1 through C/L3 and N” on the 435 to “A/L1 through C/L3 and N” on
simulator
2. Using the Fluke i400TF AC Current Clamps, to make the following
connections;
Connect the Fluke i400TF current clamps
to clamp input “A/L1 through C/L3 and N”
on the 435.
Connect the loops around the wire loops
“A/L1 through C/L3 and N” on the 435
as shown.
The clamps are directional and need to be
connected in the proper direction.
Hands-on Exercise
• Turn the simulator power ON
and press the green “ON”
switch.
• Press the SCOPE button on the
Fluke-435 to display the voltage
and current
– Press F4 to select “ZOOM”
– Press F1 to highlight “VOLT”
and/or “AMP” to “zoom in or
out”
• Use the up or down arrow keys to
adjust the amplitude on each as
needed
• Press F1 to highlight “A”
as the source
• Repeat for all phases to
assure proper
connections
Hands-on Exercise
Resistive vs Reactive
• Press the SCOPE button on the
Fluke-435 to display the voltage
and current
– Press F1 to highlight “C” as the
source
• Rotate the Imaginary and Real
Figure 1
knobs as shown in Figure 1
– Figure 2 shows a sinewave
shaped current waveform that is
in phase with the voltage.
– This represents a “Resistive”
load.
• Rotate Phase C/L1 Imaginary Figure 2
knob slowly clockwise and note
the phase shift of the current.
• Rotating Phase C/L1 Imaginary
knob in both directions allow the
current to lead or lag the voltage.
– Figure 3 shows samples of phase
shift.
– This represents “Reactive” loads.

Harmonics
• Adjust the Demonstrator knobs as
shown.
• Press the MENU button on the Fluke-
435 to display the measurement
menu choices.
– Press the down arrow key to
highlight “Harmonics” and press
F5 to select “OK”.
– Press F1 to select “A” amps
harmonics.
• The bar graphs of current
harmonics show how heavily
distorted the current is,
starting from the first
harmonic through the 49th
harmonic.
– Press the right arrow key to move
the “Cursor” on the screen on the
phase C 3rd harmonic bar graph as
shown. Figure 1
– Adjust the 3rd Harmonics “Gain”
knob through it’s range and note
the changes in the readings across
the top of the 435 display screen.
– Press the SCOPE button then
press F1 to highlight “C”.
– Adjust the 3rd Harmonics Phase Figure 1
Shift and Gain knob through their
ranges and note the changes in
wave shape on the 435 display
screen. Figure 2
– Pressing F5 “Back” will return to
the Harmonic’s screen, press F5
to stop running the Harmonics
test and press F1 to “DISCARD &
EXIT”.

Unbalance
• Adjust the Demonstrator knobs as
shown.
• Press the MENU button on the
Fluke-435 to display the
measurement menu choices if not
already displayed.
– Press the down arrow key to
highlight “Unbalance” and press
F5 to select “OK”.
– Press F2 to select “METER”, the
Meter mode should look like
the image. Figure 2
• The “Vneg.” and “Aneg.” readings
indicates the Voltage and Current
unbalance in %
– Adjust the Current “I” Real
knobs through their ranges and
note the changes in the “Aneg”
and “Afund” for each phase and
neutral readings on the 435
display screen.
– Adjust the Voltage “V” Gain
knobs through their range and
note the changes in the “Vneg”
and “Vfund” for each phase and
neutral readings on the 435
display screen.
– Press the SCOPE button to view Figure 1
the effects of adjusting the
Voltage “V” Gain knobs on the
waveforms. Figure 2
– Pressing F5 “Back” will return to
the Unbalance screen, press F5
to stop running the Harmonics
test and press F1 to “DISCARD &
EXIT”.
