Petrie Electronics
6.41 What do you think are the sources of the information Jim and his team collected? How do you think
they collected all of that information?

 As per the story, Jim and his team collected the information by
o By interviewing Key stake holders in the company
o Focus group interviews with loyal customers
o Studied other customer loyalty programs of other big retail chains

6.42 Examine PE Table 6-1. Are there any requirements or constraints that you can think of that
were overlooked? List them.

Requirements
 The system should function on mobile devices
 The system should be competitive and offer good return to customers
 The system should ensure security of personal

data Constraints

 The project scope with the goals, deliverables and tasks should be met with in the agreed time
and resources
6.43 If you were looking for alternative approaches for Petrie’s customer loyalty program, where would
you look for information? Where would you start? How would you know when you were done?

I would start looking for information on the web for other ideas about customer loyalty programs. If time
allows, I would also launch a brief survey and polls on the Web to collect data from the public- not necessarily
from the customers only. Depending on the cost, I would also create forums and chat rooms so we can learn
more from other consumers who volunteer their participation . In regards to data collection, the only way to
know you are done collecting data is when the data from different sources is repetitive- in other words, when
there is no new findings, then I believe the data collection process should stop and proceed to analyzing the
data acquired.

6.44 Using the web, find three customizable customer loyalty program systems being sold by vendors.
Create a table like PE Table 6-2 that compares them.

Building a system as per the scope they came up with for Petrie Customer and Loyalty project in-house would
be time consuming and expensive. It is also a difficult process to integrate a new system with the existing
system.
