Role of the Teacher

I believe my role as a teacher in the classroom encompasses many skills. However, I believe the
most important thing I can do for my students is to be a great mentor. I believe a mentor is
someone who makes themselves available to support and advise students when they need it,
delivering that support in a way that makes sense to them, and always keeping that students best
interests in mind. It has always been my belief that a great teacher cares as much about her
students physical and emotional well being as much as their academic achievement. I
understand that each of my students are unique and I will implement multiple instructional
strategies to ensure my students are learning in the ways that best suit them.
Another role I find to be important is my role as a life long learner . I will always instill in my
students that learning never ends. I understand that in order to best serve my students I must
always continue my own learning path professionally and as an individual. I will continue to
foster my professional relationships as well as the relationships within my community to connect
and grow from those around me.

Role of Student

The role of the students is my classroom is one that I find will help them throughout life. The
role of each student is to first and foremost be respectful of each other and to find value in the
uniqueness that each student brings academically, socially, culturally, emotionally and
physically. I truly believe that each and every one of the students who walk into my classroom
are of high value and should be respected as such. I also believe the student should take a student
centered approach to their own learning. Students should take an active role in their own
education by setting personal goals and by participating in the classroom.

Classroom Environment

The classroom environment is extremely important to me because I know for a lot of my students
to reach their highest potential they need a quality learning environment. I will create an
environment in which all students feel appreciated and valued through respect and kindness. I
want my students to feel safe enough in the classroom to take risks and not be afraid to try again.
I will create an environment in which all students find value in themselves, their differences and
their communities. I think it’s also important for students to see their classroom as an extension
of their own community. A community in which they are responsible for and have an opinion in.
I will create helper jobs throughout the classroom to help students learn responsibility for the
environment around them. To show students the value of their ideas and opinions we will create
classroom rules together as a community.
