SPEECH AND STAGE ARTS

Activity

Direction: Discuss the importance of theatre in our life, and discuss the significance of learning
its background and history. Also, point out the historical data which you find very interesting.

INDEED

Life is full of surprising events- full of happiness, challenges, filled of dramas and full of
tragedies. Life without dances, music, stories, arts, movies etc. can't be called a “life” because
without these it feels like you are living in a doll world. Therefore, theatre is very important in
our life because it is a way for us to express ourselves, to show what cultures that we have, to
build our identity, to showcase our talents and also to show who we really are as a human being.
Theatre is one of the fundamental elements of our culture; it can capture what life really is. It
shows our problem in society, it shows history and it gives us the chance to look back in the past-
to get inspiration and to step forward.

I believed in the saying “Entering the future, remembering the past” Whereas, learning
the background and history of theatre signifies that no matter how far we are now, and no matter
how long our journey is, still we need to look back and to give gratitude to those people who
gave their talents, skill, heart and dedication just to preserve our culture and to transfer it to the
next generation. Background and history also show the hardships, triumphs, tragedy and comedy
in our life. Furthermore, knowing where and when we started serves as our door to have a better
and strong future.

Nevertheless, the historical data that gets my full interest is during the 5th century BC:
The Beginning of Greek Comedy, wherein I learned here that after tragedies or problems come
in our life we need to smile, stand again and fix ourselves because there is a new dawn that is
waiting for us. Moreover, the Beginning of Greek Comedy and the works of Aristophanes are not
all about the comedy itself but it gives good lessons that really inspire people to not easily give
up on the problems nor circumstances in life but to find ways to make life easier and happier.
Remember the saying goes “Laughter is the best medicine.”

To conclude, theatre has a big role in our lives- it gives us the chance to bring back the
memories and to give gratitude to those people behind the successful history of theatre. Theatre
is the manifestation of our culture, of our life. Theatre shows to us how the world changes and
how innovation occurs. Therefore, theatre is great indeed.
