Choose one of the following three prompts.

Write a 2-3 page (double spaced)

story that continues the prompt you choose. Your story must be cohesive and
flow well.

Prompt A: As you walk home from school, you notice a little boy behind
you. His shocking red hair stands out against his pale skin, and from a
distance, his clothes seem well-worn. You can’t imagine he’s more than five
or six years old. Even though you’re taller, he makes up ground block after
block, until you decide to turn around and confront him.

Prompt B: Your favorite time to walk through the park is September: it’s still
warm, the leaves are showing a hint of colors to come, and the breeze hasn’t
developed its icy edge of the later months. You make your way to your usual
bench and pause to take a water break. After taking a few sips of the cool
fluid, you look back down at the bench. A small translucent bottle, filled
halfway with a light purple liquid, sits on the wood. You could’ve sworn it
wasn’t there a second ago.

Prompt C: You couldn’t wait for Saturday to roll around so you could go
shopping with your friends. You traipsed through the mall, raiding store after
store for hours. In the last store, a shirt catches your eye from across the aisle,
and you walk over to take a look. You consider it for a few minutes, but you
eventually decide it’s not worth buying. You look for your friends, but they
aren’t where they were five minutes ago. Above you, the lights begin to
flicker out, and you hear a metallic clanging in the distance. You realize that
the store has closed for the night, and you’ve been locked inside.

● Adjective clauses

● Adverb clauses

● Noun clauses

● Simple sentences

● Compound sentences

● Complex sentences
