Summary: Studying Made Easy

On April 14th, the College of Business Administration and Accountancy
(CBAA) conducted a webinar entitled “Due Tomorrow, Do Tomorrow:
Recognizing and Breaking Poor Learning Pattern.” The webinar started at
exactly ten o’clock in the morning with a prayer followed by singing of the
national anthem. Right after, Mr. Frank David Pascual, Department Section
Coordinator, gave his opening remarks regarding the webinar with the aim of
adding value to current learning patterns that will greatly impact the students’
respective careers in the future.
Ms. Erika L. Magdaong, Resource Speaker, take on the discussion
explaining the advantages and disadvantages of synchronous and
asynchronous setup, procrastination and ways to overcome it, stress and how to
manage it, and the importance of recognizing students’ study habit.
According to the resource speaker,
the advantages of distance learning is its
flexibility, practicality, and affordability.
However, its disadvantages include isolation,
requires self-discipline, and has lack of instant
feedback. It is essential for students to know
the pros and cons of this set-up and be
aware since this is the first time to have this
approach and students normally find it
difficult to do. Apart from that, the speaker
talked about procrastination which has a
negative impact not only to the students but
also those who are working already. Based
on a study, twenty percent of college
students do not procrastinate, however the
remaining eighty percent practice
procrastination during their academic year.
Usually, procrastination happens because
anxiety, perfectionism, and most of the time
the degree of procrastination is affected due
to personal characteristics. With this, people
may overcome procrastination by visualizing and verbalizing our intention. Other
techniques may include maximizing prime time, getting started, and using
deadlines. Next, Ms. Magdaong discussed the aftermath of procrastination
which is stress and ways of managing it. According to her, it is important to seek
and destroy key sources of stress, find meaning and support, meditate and
manage energy, get organized and manage time, and find balance in order to
overcome the feeling of being stressed. In addition, she encouraged the
students to recognize and reassess their study habits. For her, it is important to
identify what area students usually lack and needs improvement and employ
techniques to improve the rate and quality of your learning.
During the discussion, Ms. Magdaong shared some notable words from
Martin Luther King Jr., Reed Markham, and Benjamin Franklin pointing out what
success is.
As an ice breaker, the speaker decided to have an activity regarding the
discussion. Some attendees did not get the correct answer but based on the
resource speaker it is fine if some did not answer correctly as the activity itself
implies that one-way communication often leads to misunderstanding.
In accordance with the activity, the speaker discussed what is a human
resource personnel—its expectations, ethics of the HR career, and HR reminders,
and HR as a career.
After the discussion, some of the attendees were called to share their
opinions, thoughts and questions for the said discussion.
Then, the attendees were encouraged to join the quiz bee “Type it to Win
It”. Basically, the quiz bee was divided into three parts: easy, average, and hard.
After that, the certificate of appreciation was awarded to Ms. Erika
Magdaong for sharing her valuable time and expertise as the resource speaker
in the activity.
Finally, the closing remarks was given by Mr. Ramezesh Dionisio, HRDM
Council Adviser, thanking everyone for attending and joining the activity
entitled “Due Tomorrow, Do Tomorrow: Recognizing and Breaking Poor Learning
Pattern.”
