Operating System:

Operating system is collection of set of programs, which manage all the resources of the
computer system. It is an intermediate between the computer user and computer hardware. It
provides common services for application software. A user cannot run an application program on
the computer without operating system, unless the application is self booting.
There are five main types of operating systems. These five OS types which are given below are
likely what run your phone or computer.

1. Microsoft Window OS
2. Linux OS
3. Android OS
4. Apple IOS
5. Apple macOS

Android OS:

Android is a Linux based and open source operating system for smart phones and tablet
computers. It has an integrated Java virtual Machine. The system interfaces are exposed through
java libraries. It is specially developed for applications. Android offers a unified approach to
application development for mobile devices which means developers need only develop for
Android, and their applications should be able to run on different devices powered by Android.
The developer of Android was mostly Google & Open Handset Alliance. It supports 2D and 3D
graphics, third party apps, and all the Google services. Backup and restore of apps can be
possible for android users.
Features of Android:

Android is user friendly and it has larger developer and community reach. Android has a lot of
features out of which some are given below.

1. NFC
2. Storage
3. Multi-tasking
4. No touch control
5. Infrared transmission
6. GCM
7. Widgets
8. Custom ROMs

1. NFC:
NFC stands for Near Field Communication. It is a short- range wireless connectivity. The
main aim of NFC is to create a payment option that is easier than carrying cash and
credits.

2. Storage:
Android holds individual hardware capacities and provides storage (internal and external
storage) to store data. For expandable storage, androids also have SD card slots

3. Multi-tasking:
Android is a multi tasking operating system. User can perform various task at a same
time.

4. No touch control:
Android phones have an application called wave control. This application control calls
messages, video and music by just using a gesture of a wave. User doesn’t need to touch
the screen to response a call or message.

5. Infrared Transmission:
The Android operating system supports a built-in infrared transmitter, allowing you to
use your phone or tablet as a remote control.

6. GCM:
GCM stands for Google Cloud Messaging. It is a service that lets developers send short
message data to their users on Android devices without needing a proprietary sync
solution.
7. Widgets:
Apps are flexible, but sometimes we need data at a sight instead of having to open an
app and wait for it to load. Android widgets let you display just about any feature you
choose, right on the home screen including weather apps, music widgets, or productivity
tools that helpfully remind you of upcoming meetings or approaching deadlines.

8. Custom ROMs:
Android operating system is open source, developers can tweak the current OS and build
their own versions, which users can download and install in place of the stock OS. Some
are packed with articles, while others change the look and texture of a device. Thus,
Android provides a host of choices that are not found in the competitive mobile operating
systems.
