Homework Assignment 4 EE499 Photovoltaic Energy

Note: Answer all the 2 questions.

Question 1:
Consider a commercial 230 W PV module BP 3230T. The model has 60 PV cells connected in series, where each

module measures 15x15 cm. The datasheet of the PV module specifies 𝐼 = 𝐼 = 8.4 𝐴, 𝑉 = 36.7 𝑉, 𝑉 =

29.1 𝑉 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐼 = 7.9 𝐴. To simplify the calculation, assume that the shunt resistance 𝑅 is infinite and the series

resistance 𝑅 is zero. The constant values for PV cell modeling are given as follows:

𝑞 − 𝐸𝑙𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑟𝑜𝑛𝑖𝑐 𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑔𝑒: 1.6 𝑥 10 − 19 𝐶𝑜𝑢𝑙𝑜𝑚𝑏𝑠

𝐾 − 𝐵𝑜𝑙𝑡𝑧𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑛’𝑠 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑡: 1.38 𝑥 10 − 23 𝐽/𝐾
𝑇 − 𝐴𝑏𝑠𝑜𝑙𝑢𝑡𝑒 𝑡𝑒𝑚𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒: 273 + 25 𝐾𝑒𝑙𝑣𝑖𝑛
𝑛 − 𝐷𝑖𝑜𝑑𝑒 𝑖𝑑𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑦 𝑓𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑜𝑟 ∶ 𝑖𝑑𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 𝑛 = 1
𝐼 − 𝐶𝑒𝑙𝑙 𝑟𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑒 − 𝑠𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑐𝑢𝑟𝑟𝑒𝑛𝑡: 10 − 12 𝐴/𝑐𝑚2
𝐼 − 𝐶𝑒𝑙𝑙 𝑝ℎ𝑜𝑡𝑜𝑐𝑢𝑟𝑟𝑒𝑛𝑡: 37.5 𝑚𝐴/𝑐𝑚2/𝑆𝑢𝑛 (1 𝑆𝑢𝑛 = 1 𝑘𝑊/𝑚2)
