Abstract

Child is a priceless give from God. Unfortunately cases such as baby dumping still happening in our
country. Baby dumping is a social crisis and has a chronic increase as many cases are occurring in
Malaysian society. Baby dumping mean the act that throw away the baby any where or leaving alone
and without take care for a period of time. From my views baby dumping affecting the community. This
case has affected the image of the surrounding communities. They would have embarrassed and
disappointed by what happened. Of course teenagers have been blame in this case. This happens when
teenagers have unprotected sex before marriage without any planning, unreported sex, they feel very
pressure when they think that the baby might become a burden to them when they are not ready to
take care of the baby. They are unable to make a correct decision. Immature mind of the teenagers will
make them to think that the best solution is to throw the baby away because they might get rejection
from their parents. Some of the boys might deny their actions because they are worried that people will
look down on them. In directly, its has created a negative perception of people outside on the credibility
of community in overcome baby dumping cases. The government, parents and schools should work
together to prevent teenagers to dump their babies.

Introduction

Problem Statement

From the statistic from the Headquarters of Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) by state from 2005 until 7
April 2010, there were total of 407 cases of baby dumping in each state until 7 April 2010. As an average
from this data, there would be 407 cases divided by 64 months and it was equal to 6.4 cases every
month. Selangor had been dominated in this type of cases which state of 105 cases in only 5 years.
While Perlis only state 1 case over 5 years. However, every state in the country had baby dumping
problem even it is only one case which means baby dumping in the country become critical social
problem and the number of cases will be increases according to time if there were no drastic action to
prevent the cases become worst. The purpose of this research is to find out the cases of baby dumping
in 14 states in Malaysia.

Hypotheses

The state that have the highest probability of baby dumping cases can be identified from the analyzed
data. The expectation of random variable concept is used to calculate the mean and the variance of the
number of baby dumping cases.
Objective

This study aimed to identify the state that have the highest probability of baby dumping cases which is
14 state had been involved. To find the mean and variance of the number of baby dumping cases
according to the state.

Methodology

From the data descriptive we obtained from the Headquarters of Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). Data
were based on the cases of baby dumping in 14 states in Malaysia from 2005 until 7 April 2010. The data
has been analyzed by expectation of a Discrete Random Variable. In this case we are use expectation of
a random variable. The expectation of a random is one of the most crucial concepts in statistics. An
expected value provides a measure of central tendency of a random variable, namely the summary
statistics. We can express the population mean or expectation of X, where P(X=x) is the probability of
the N posibble values of X. For instance, if we have 14 possible value of X. The population mean or
expectation of X is

We also use variance of a discrete random variable. In this section, we use the variance to quantify the
measure of the dispersion in a distribution of a random variable, X. We define the population of X as

Conclusion
In conclusion, baby dumping is morally and physically wrong. There are many factors that lead to
cases of baby dumping occured. This problem should be addressed and resolved to carry out
these step effectively before the situation worsens and threatens the future of the country .In
this case, all parties must cooperate and work together to solve this problem because like the
Malay proverb says, “because the sewer water round, round man for consensus”.Teenagers
should keep a distance from crimes. They have to learn to be responsible for what they have
done and think maturely on the pros and cons before jumping to a conclusion. From the report
we can find out the expectation of a discrete random variable by using the data from the
statistic of Headquarters of Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) by state from 2005 until 7 April 2010.
