Miss Smith taught three small groups virtually. The skill addressed in the lesson was recognizing text features and
how they can help us gather information to create a biography flipbook. In these three groups there are vast
learning abilities and exceptionalities. Each group received 30 minutes of instruction.

For group 1(ELL/SLED), Miss Smith provided sorting activities heavily scaffolded with pictures and arrows
pointing out Text features in a sample biography. She asked questions about why text features would help them.
The pictures and activities were engaging and fun. The group was provided with a checkpoint slide, to check for
student understanding before going on. The lesson ended with Miss Smith asking each student who choose to
research. The student then inserted that picture into their slide. Miss Smith’s learning goals were clearly stated
before and after her lesson.

For the Benchmark Group 2, Miss Smith provided a sorting activity of examples and non-examples of biographies
to see what they understood about the subject. Next, she provided students with pictures and arrows pointing out
Text features in a sample biography. Miss Smith provided an engaging activity where the student had to drag
sticky notes with text feature names next to actual snipped text features from texts. She asked questions about why
authors chose to include text features for readers. The pictures and activities were engaging and fun. The group

was provided with a search platform, Duckster.com, and independent time to use to find a person to use in their
biography flipbook. Students were also presented with a checkpoint slide, to ensure student understanding before
going on. The lesson ended with Miss Smith asking each student who choose someone to research. The student
then inserted a picture of that person into their slide. Students were also provided with an additional slide to take
notes. Miss Smith’s learning goals were clearly stated before and after her lesson.

For the Approaching group 3(ELL/SLED Miss Smith provided a sorting activity of examples and non-examples of
biographies to see what they understood about the subject. Next, she provided students with pictures and arrows
pointing out Text features in a sample biography. Miss Smith provided an engaging activity where the student had
to drag sticky notes with text feature names next to actual snipped text features from texts. She asked questions
about why authors chose to include text features for readers. The pictures and activities were engaging and fun.
Miss Smith demonstrated the search platform, Duckster.com, to help students understand how to find a person to
use in their biography flipbook. As a whole group, Miss Smith went through the checkpoint slide to ensure student
understanding before going on. The lesson ended with Miss Smith asking each student who choose someone to
research. The student then inserted a picture of that person into their slide. Miss Smith’s learning goals were
clearly stated before and after her lesson.
