Homework No.2
HM Q: Prepare a 5 km *5 km map for where do you live and assign the
following:
1) Highway class.
2) Type of intersection.
3)Take on highway and select all applicable cross sectional elements. After
that, distinguish between highway classes based on (speed, trip length,
accessibility, mobility, and geometric design). In addition, classify all
intersection based on complexity, safety, and traffic control type. Imagine
yourself as a planning engineer who will take decision effect the place
where you live for any enhancement.

------------------------------------
The residential area in which I live is called
Mansheyet Abu Hammour , Al-Karak.
1) Highway class:

As it is shown in the picture, the

blue line indicates the main and
only road in Manshiyat Abu
Hammur that connects between Al
Thanya and Adir or the Jubilee
region and other many regions

The width of the road is 18.56 m, it

is dual carriageway and is bisected
by a sidewalk which has a width of
0.5m

-Speed: The permissible speed for cars, according to my

personal estimation, is from 40-60 km / h, but because it
contains many attractions without parking facilities, there is
constant congestion so that vehicle drivers have to reduce
their speed to avoid traffic accidents .

-Accessibility: Accessibility is very good and easily available

in this region, as most of the secondary and small streets are
directly connected to it, to facilitate the process of
transportation from one place to another place .
-Mobility: is defined as the potential for movement and the
ability to get from one place to another using one or more
means of transportation to meet daily needs, and
unfortunately moving in my region is uneasy

-Geometric design: is the determination of layout and

features visible on highway.

The geometric design of highway is influenced by:

1-the characteristics of the vehicle.
2-the behavior of the driver.
3-Traffic volume.
4-Traffic speed.

2)Type of intersection:
Definition: The type of geometric configuration that best describes the
intersection/junction.

Attributes:
• T-Intersection
• Y-Intersection
• Cross-Intersection (four legs)
• Five or more legs and not circular
• Roundabout
• Other circular intersection (e.g., rotaries, neighborhood traffic circles)
- A modern roundabout is a circular intersection where
drivers travel counterclockwise around a center island ,in my
region there is a two from roundabout intersection type , at
the start and the end of the main road within our town.

- A T-Intersection is an intersection at which a minor

roadway meets a major roadway, there are many T-
Intersections, for 2-4 interchanges that connect directly to
the main road.
