Biomimicry is the science of applying nature-inspired designs to human engineering and invention to
solve human problems. Biomimicry pushes us towards a new way of life - towards sustainable assets,
methods and policies.

Here's an interesting example from a video for the IT world: bio-silicon. It is a diatom which is made
from silicates. Imagine that you can make perfect lenses. On the left is a fragile star; it is covered with
lenses, does not have any distortion. A woman named Joanna Eisenberg at Lucent is now learning how
to do this in a low-temperature process to create this kind of lens. She also studies fiber optics. It is a sea
sponge that has fiber optic fiber. This works better than ours actually for moving lights, but you can tie
them into a knot; they are incredibly flexible. I know an interesting example from science - telescope
and honeycomb. The new telescope will use hexagonal mirrors to better perceive light from celestial
bodies. This shape provides the widest possible field of view, high quality and strong structure. The
structure was taken from bees. Both the honeycomb and their eyes are composed of many hexagons.
