You will develop a critical understanding of the role of professional management and
leadership development in business organizations. Through the exploration of
business issues and case studies, you will gain analytical and evaluative skills
through an investigation into how key management and leadership decisions impact
on businesses organisations.

L Module Content
The content addresses 7001V1 Personal leadership development as a strategic
manager and 7013V1 strategic leadership of the CMI syllabus.

This module in Professional Management and Leadership development will provide


you with exposure to a range of leadership and management styles and practice.
This will help you appreciate different management and leadership styles in order
understand management and leadership development planning.

You will explore Human resource development planning, organisation’s ethical &
value based strategies

You will apply cognitive thinking when critically examining subject areas in which the
concepts may be used explicitly or implicitly include:
Strategy and Change – Mintzberg
The three levels of strategy and decision making cycles
The differences between management and leadership
Leadership behaviours and motivation, Emotional intelligence and leadership styles
The cultural web, Situational leadership, Transactional and transformational
leadership
Human resource development planning, organisation’s ethical & value based

strategies
Case studies will be utilised to help you develop the capability and ability to use a
range of techniques to create effective leadership and management development
plants to ensure the organisation’s strategic aims and objectives can be achieved.
Case studies will be provided for ‘theory to practice exercises’. Business simulation
case studies and/or the purchase of a simulation game (cost per student paid to the
supplier). The simulated case study and/or game allows for ‘theory to practice’ in
simulated case studies :-

Allowing for higher student engagement; increased learning experience; stimulates


ambition and employment skills development. The case studies/game(s) offered will
be designed/chosen from simulations such as – managing a global operation and/or
trading in various goods.

The case studies/game will include subjects such as:

International strategy; local and global marketing strategy, HR strategy (on local and
global), R& D and product improvement, CSR corporate governance and
sustainability.

Strategy, management, decision making, marketing strategy, accounting and finance,


HRM and entrepreneurship.
M Module Learning Outcomes
By the end of this module successful students will be able to do the following:

1 Have an appreciation of several different theories of management and leadership and


how these impact on an organisation’s development planning
Have a critical understanding of the impact of an organisation’s ethical and value-
2 based strategy and how it affects the relationship on the staff welfare environment
between human resources, management, and leadership.
3 Be able to apply the cognitive skills of critical thinking and analysis when evaluating
different approaches to management and leadership.
4 Have the capability and ability to evaluate leadership styles and strategies to apply
and evaluate tools and techniques associated with the creation of an effective
leadership development plan that adheres to the organisational strategic aims,
objectives
