RANGKUMAN ARTIKEL “THE HISTORY OF SOCIAL MEDIA AND ITS IMPACT ON BUSINESS”
1. Latar Belakang:
Thoroughout the human history, people as social person keep finding way to
communicating and socialization with each other. Nowadays in the midst of pandemic
where people can't go out and stay at home, we stay in contact with each other with
the help of social media. Social media eventually become a global phenomenon that
has transformed the way people interact and communicate with each other in our daily
life. Almost everyone who has smart phone must be use one or more social media, it
has become a needed in our society. In recent times, social media has impacted many
aspects of business especially marketing. or the way business conducted
advertisement on their product and their transactions online.
2. Isi:
Social media itself is a computer based technology that facilitates the sharing
of ideas, thoughts, and information thorugh the building of virtual social networks and
communities. Meanwhile networking is the exchange of information or services among
individuals, groups or institutions, specifically the cultivation of productive relationships
for employment or business. Social media is internet based and gives users quick
electronic communication of content. This content includes personal information,
documents, videos, and photos. Users engage with social media via computer, tablet
or smartphone via web based software or web application often utilizing it for
messaging.
Even though Social Networks have envolved over the years to the modern day
today which uses the internet and technology ability, the social media isn’t new. It
didn’t start with computer based technology, but telephone. In the 1980s and ’90s, the
internet’s growth enabled the introduction of online communication services such as
CompuServe, America Online, and Prodigy. They introduced users to digital
communication through email, bulletin board messaging, and real-time online chatting.
This gave rise to the earliest social media networks, beginning with the short-lived Six
Degrees profile uploading service in 1997.
This service was followed in 2001 by Friendster. These rudimentary platforms
attracted millions of users and enabled email address registration and basic online
networking. In 2000s social media is used by many people and this highly boosted
and transformed the interaction of peoples and community who share the common
interest in many fields.Today’s most prominent social media networks of 2020 is
facebook, reddit, twitter, instagram, pinterest, snapchat, and tiktok.

The impact of social media make businesses took advantage of this new
costumer mobility by serving their customer’s new, simpler method of interacting and
new ways of buying goods and services. Using social media for branding a product or
companies will support brand building or good reputation in public. By building a brand,
it helps the public to recognize and know about the product or services. If the public
knows, then it can help companies to attract more new customers.
The Users of social media don’t just log in and browser, they also search for
product or services trend and because of it, social media ads such as Facebook make
companies discovered the potential utility of cultivating an active, engaged social
media presence. To grow an audience organically, brand have to use social media
advertising must be paid for the act of creating and sharing informative content on
Social Media platform. The combinantion of advertising or paid social media marketing
and organic social media outreach evolved into the digital marketing speciality known
as social media marketing.
Other than that, Social media such as Facebook or LinkedIn, a source used by
recruiters made it the easiest ways to help many people being employed, also improve
productivity and to generate a natural interest in the work carried out by the employees.
Using these media, companies can track employee’s creativity and enthusiasm.
3. Penutup
Social media is a platfom that has many advantages for society. It helps people
to communicate and interact with each other. It helps business in many aspect too
such as marketing and advertisement. Social media also help businesses to grow by
building brand in public and help costumer’s mobility by serving their customer’s new,
easier and simpler method of interacting and new ways of buying goods and services.
The future of social media is limited only by the imagination of its stakeholders.
The brief history of the industry has proven that the rapid change — advances in
technology, more-strident financial demands, shifting cultural dynamics — will
transform the current social media landscape. Human beings are social creatures.
Commerce is driven by human interaction. These two facts will continue to shape the
evolution of social media into the next decade and beyond.
