Bangladesh gamble in games of chance.

INTRODUCTION 

Gambling is the betting of money or something of value on an event with an unknown result,
with the primary intention of winning money or material goods. From my opinion somebody
might start gambling for fun and have some early wins. Or maybe for stress reduction or relief
from boredom. Then they keep playing with the expectation that they will win again and
experience the same good feelings. However, when they lose, especially large losses, then I think
the cycle of compulsive gambling can begin.
As a Muslim majority country gambling is haram in our religion and also illegal by our
country’s law. Still many people gamble. The focus of my research will be my opinion
about why people in Bangladesh gamble in games of chance. I will try to find out if the
effects of gambling are positive or negative and what non gamblers opinion on gambling.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS  

In my research I plan to investigate on the psychological reasons why people in Bangladesh

gamble in games of chance as well as effects of gambling.
My research will address these following questions:
 What is gambling?
 What are the types of games of chance in Bangladesh?
 What are the scopes for playing games of chance in Bangladesh?
 How gamblers are treated in our country?
 Why do people gamble?
 What are the psychological reasons people in Bangladesh gamble?
  Does gambling have any effect on our economy?
 When gambling becomes a problem?
 Why is it so hard to stop gambling?
 What are the effects of gambling addiction?
 What non gamblers think about gambling?
 Does gambling effect our culture?

HYPOTHESIS  

The term "gambling" has been met with disrespect and disgust in our society as long as we can
remember. I think people normally gamble for making quick and easy money. I think the
psychological reasons for people in Bangladesh gambling maybe be for relieving stress, to
socialize, to distract themselves from other problems or to fulfill their personal needs etc. I want
to know if gambling is that bad as being treated like that. I expect to a lot get negative results or
views about gambling. But I also expect to get some positive result about gambling. The major
result I expect from my primary research is against gambling because research suggest
Bangladeshi people has a low percentage on risk taking. So, I expect there will be a smaller
number of gamblers in our country compared to our population.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY 

For my primary research, I will try to put out a survey about this topic that will collect
the opinions from people of different age & types. I plan to conduct a survey of a
representative sampling of at least 35 members of the educated general public of
Bangladesh. I am also going to try interviewing some gamblers if possible. I will
design a questionnaire with different types of questions which will help me to answer
my research questions and test my hypothesis. 

For my secondary research I will select few of the many articles written about gambling.

ORGANIZATION

My paper will be divided in several sections, the most important of which are the
Introduction, Background, Data Presentation and Analysis, and Summary of Findings.
My sections in Organization will be based off of my research questions.

TIMETABLE

I plan to complete my primary research by the mid-December, and my secondary

research by the end of December. I shall complete writing the final draft of my
Research Paper by January 10, and submit it by the specified deadline towards the
end of this semester.
