Machine Operation

This section will cover the functions of the various operation panels on Okuma lathes and
machining centers with the OSP 7000 control. Some basic MDI functions will also be
discussed at the end of this section.

Basic Construction of the Operation Panels

Okuma machine tools with the OSP 7000 series controls mainly consist of four panels.

1. NC Operation Panel (Common Panel)

2. Machine Operation Panel
3. Pendant Operation Panel
4. Option Panel
NC Operation Panel

The NC operation panel is common on all Okuma machines. In other words, the control
is the same (hardware wise) whether it’s on a lathe grinder or machining center. The 7000
series controls are equipped with a 12-inch CRT. The 7000 series model B is equipped
with a 14-inch CRT. The 700 series controls are equipped with a 9-inch “Thin type
liquid crystal display” (LCD) panel. A picture of a OSP 7000 NC operation panel can be
seen on page 4-38. The following is a description of the OSP 7000 series NC operation
panel.

Throughout this section all the information pertains to both types of controls.

These controls have eight function keys located below the CRT. These function keys are
used to access the different menus on the control. Each mode key has a different set of
menus. Depending on which mode the control is in, the function keys will help the user
to access the menus associated with these individual modes.

The following is an outline of the menus associated with the different operating modes on
the (OSP 7000) control. for LATHES.
