The feed speed is 270 characters per second, When the
state 'r1I stays or after the data strobe signal under sec.
2-6 has been rernoved, the tape is continuously fed. The

Direction Selective Signal (Fig. 2): This signal is used to
decide the direction of tape reading.

Data 0utput Signal (FiC. 3)
The data output signat is detivered at the IC tevel fron t to 8
channels. The signal is 'r1r,when lhe hole is present, ,,O,,rhen the
hole is absent, and tO for fan-out. The stopping position of this
tape reade" is at oFF character. the phototiansislor signal is
stored into the data nemory circuit incorporated in the iape reader
as a data output sigflal about 120 us before the data strob; sisnal
is generared. In this way, lhe pre-phototranststo. signat can'U.
naintained before the operation is stopped.

Data Strobe Signal [Fig. 3)
This tape reader is not designed to optically read the sprocket
holes. Instead, the data strobe pulse is generated frorn the drive
circuit of the stepping notor per character. The pulse is at 5 V
TTL IC 1eveI.

Data strobe signal (1), fan-out 10 for the userrs unit
Data strobe signal (2), fan-out 10 for the data signal gate
Data slrobe signal (3), fan-out 10 for the user's unit
(1) and (2) are the sarne signal, and (3) is an inverred signal
of (I) and (2).

Erratic 0peration Detection Systern
This tape readei delivers the error signal when the stepping motor
is perforning an erratic operation which is caused by the tape
tension under the load of nore than 300 g or by sone electrical
trouble. Under. this condition, PTR ERRoR lamp lights. In this
case, all the data output signals turn to "0."
Error signal 1evel "0": The tape leader is nomally functioning
Error signal 1eve1 "1": The erratic operation of the tape reader is
detected, the lanp lights, and the data
outPut signals turn to "0."
once the stepping nrotor perforns erratic ope.ation, the error signal,
lanp, and aI1 the data output signals naintain the status of erratic
operatior. The tape reader can be restarted by resetting. Press
the reset pushbutton, and nake sure that PTR ERRoR lanp goes off

Tape splicing To splice the tape, join together the ends of
the iape to be spliced, and attach the splic-
ing tape [0.08 nnn thickJ only to the tape top
in such a way that the spliced tape hotes and
the splicing tape ones are aligned. Debur
both sides of the spliced area of the tape
by cutting off snall Portions.

Cleaning : Deposition of dust or trpe chrps on rhe tape surface
may cause misreading. Cledn rhe tape surfice and
the glass sheet of the LED case witjr a soft brush or
suchlike from tirne to tine. If the dust deposit rs
obstlnate, remove the LED case so lhat acce;s for
cleaning is gained to the tape surface and the glass
sheet of the LED case.

To remove the LED case, renove a holding-down scr:ew and pu11
the case toward yourself. When reinstalling the case, reverse
the above procedure. lf dust cannot be removed with a soft
brush or suchlike, rub it off with a soft cloth.

of non contact type. tr{alfunction is caused when dust or

Troubleshooting
When PTR ERRoR lamp abnormally lights as rnentioned in
Table 1, and the photocoupler is suspected to be the cause,
use the following procedure to check and clean the erratic
operation detector.
obtain (1) dual trace oscilloscope Do not tamper with the
photo coupler section.
