Reflection Paper

What is Basic Life Support? It is a level of medical care which is used for
patients with life-threatening illness or injury until the patient can be given full
medical care. It can be provided by trained medical personnel, including emergency
medical technicians and by laypersons who have received BLS training.

In the given video clip, it tells us about all the possible injuries. There are a lot
of injuries mentioned on the video and those injuries are fever and heat related
injuries, animal bites and stings, injuries by marine creatures, snake bites, and
poisoning. First is the fever and heat related injuries, fever are common illness for us
while other heat related illnesses like heat stroke, heat exhaustion, heat cramps,
sunburn, and heat rash are more dangerous than fever. There are a lot of ways to
prevent these illnesses like staying hydrated etc. In animal bites and stings, the
examples of these injuries are dog bites, insect bites and insect stings. In the video,
they mentioned a lot of ways to prevent, what to do if you are already in the situation
where you are about to get injured, and the treatment that are available in first aid.
This information about animal bites and stings are very helpful because I like
interacting with pets specially dogs and cats, it also indicates what are the dos and
don’ts when you are interacting with your pet. In injuries by marine creature, they
mentioned about sea creatures that can cause injury like severe poisoning and
occasionally death results from severe allergic reaction or anaphylactic shock. The
dangerous sea creatures that they mentioned are jellyfish, Portuguese man-of-war,
box jellyfish, sea urchins, and stingray. It’s kinda scary to know that these sea
creatures are so deadly that could kill someone if it touches the human skin, not just
to humans but also to other species. The information given on how to treat whenever
there’s a chance that you got stung by these creatures are so helpful and it gives us
the idea on how to apply it on ourselves when there’s a time that we could apply this
knowledge. Snakes are one of the most venomous animals in the world, but snake bite
is often not a serious injury, it still can be very frightening. The video tells us how to
recognize snake bites, how to treat snake bites, and the safety precaution from snake
bites. We must know this kind of information specially those houses that are near the
mountains because they might come inside our home and harm people. Lastly
poisoning, it is a substance that is harmful to the body when, ingested, inhaled,
injected or absorbed through the skin. It can be intentional or unintentional, they
mentioned examples how poisoning may occur and poisonous products like overdosing
medicines, being bitten by a venomous animals and more. Poisoning is fatal that could
kill you instantly, we must know the risk and start to make prevention inside our
home just like what did the video said like keeping the household products and
medications out of the reach of children etc.

Overall, we must be well informed about these cases, we can manage to avoid
this accidents or possible injuries in the future with this information about basic life
support. It is a nice thing to learn because we can help others if they might run unto
this kind of situations.
