A 2 3 The research proposal is generally appropriate, but some elements lack

clarity, detail and focus. The research question is descriptive. The
rationale gives some context, but does not fully explain the reason for the
investigation. The identification of key syllabus areas is limited and the
reasons for the chosen methodology generalised.

B 2 3 This really is a borderline 2. The candidate gathered primary information

from managers and production line workers. In the main report the focus
is on questionnaire results with only a very limited reference to managers’
views in the section on qualitative data.

C 1 3 There is only a limited understanding of the management tools,

techniques and theories used and these were superficially applied. The
candidate attempted to use Maslow and Herzberg motivation theories
with minor links to Taylor in terms of monetary motivation. Use was
simplistic.

D 2 6 The results and findings are limited, with a superficial analysis. The poor
research question provided little focus for analysis. Findings were
discrete with little evidence of integration of ideas. Judgments are not
substantiated.

E 1 2 There are conclusions based on findings in the main report, but these are
unsubstantiated. The lack of communication was identified in the
introduction before the investigation was conducted.

F 1 2 There are two recommendations. Although consistent with the

conclusions, these recommendations are not evidenced or adequately
supported by discussion in the main body.
G 1 2 The structure does not develop a clear line of argument.

H 1 2 The candidate does not present all the required components of the
written report in the correct order and format as shown on pages 81 and
82 of the subject guide. The methodology section and recommendations
in the executive summary are both vague. There are no
acknowledgements. The main results and findings are combined with the
analysis and evaluation section. The Hoang book in the bibliography has
no publisher.
I 1 2 Although there is some generic reflective thinking, the report only
includes limited reflection on the approach taken to the research, which is
the focus for this criterion. There is mention of limited sample size, time
and responses, but some of these were in the control of the candidate.
