Experiment No: 2

Experiment Name:
Development of Crease Resistant Property on Cotton Woven/Knit Fabric.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Crease/Wrinkle Resistance
Crease or wrinkle resistance means that a fabric resists bending, twisting and other
deformations. Crease recovery means that fabric can bend and twist and then recover from
this deformation. A fabric that resists bending when the body bends is less comfortable than
one that "gives" and then recovers its original smoothness. Therefore crease recovery
describes the performance that the consumer desires in a fabric.

What is Resin
Synthetic resins are complex organic products of high molecular weight. Resin results when a number
of simple molecules of low molecular weight become joined together end to end to form much longer
molecules which may be linear or linear molecules may become cross-linked.

Resin Finishing
The process of applying resins on textile material so that they crosslink inside the amorphous region
and block the free hydroxyl (–OH) groups, thus preventing the hydrogen bond formation & improving
the crease -recovery angle (in case of cellulose) is called Resin finishing or Crease resistant finish. It is
a permanent finish. It is found by using cross linking agent that hold agent molecules together & pull
them back into shape when they are distorted.

Resin Finish is also named after-

 Anti-crease Finishes (Protect fabric from formation of crease).
 Wash & wear finish (British-Wash and wear fabrics are those which after washing can be
dried and the garments made from them can be wear without ironing and pressing).
 Durable Press Finish (DP) (American-For shape retention and freedom from ironing is given
durable press or permanent press and curing is done after garments has been cut, sewn and
pressed to shape).
 Easy care finish (commonly used).
 Wrinkle/crease resistance finish.
