Social Literacy?

What is that?
“An individual’s ability to successfully an deliberately mediate their
world as family members, workers, citizens and lifelong learners.”
In simpler terms, Social Literacy, or sometimes reffered to as social
intellegence, is the ability to build relationships, and maintain those
relations in any social environment.
In order to be successful, Social Literacy involves knowing how to
express one’s own emotions in a proper manner, and therefore, is often
linked to Emotional Literacy.

Social Literacy and Technology
As technology begins to play a larger part of our daily interaction,
the importance of Social Literacy increases immediately.
 Teaching students to become socially literate, and how to
express themselves correctly can help to prevent bullying over
the internet.
 It can also aid students in handling their friendships and
miscommunications better (on or off the internet)
 Communicating through technology also becomes more frequent
as students grow and enter adulthood.

Reflection
Social Literacy is the ability of an individual to understand the
ways they interact to other people appropriately and with respect. This
lesson plays an important role of a learner to socialize to others and
understanding each their diversity.
This lesson really reflects to me as a learner and as a freshman
student of this university. Starting on my first day here, it made me feel
uncomfortable in socializing since I not really good at it. I am afraid of
rejection and for their judgment. For me, if I socialize I need first to

m
consider their level and the way they approach other people. I am

er as
actually not really good in making myself shine among others.
