5E's LESSON PLAN: SUBTRACTION OF SIMILAR FRACTIONS (Grade 5)

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students can;
a. Understand the process of Subtraction of Similar Fractions,
b. Evaluate the process of Subtraction of Similar Fractions; and
c. Apply the learning about the process of Subtraction of Similar
Fraction on activity.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

c. MATERIALS: Maker, Cartolina, Glue, Scissors and Tape.
III. PROCEDURE
PRELIMINARIES

• Prayer
• Greetings
• Checking of attendance REVIEW

• The teacher will going to review the Addition of Similar


Fractions.
LESSON PROPER
ENGAGE:
The teacher will:

• Divide the class into four groups;


• the teacher will suggest that the group will form a small
circle;
• students will solve the given puzzle words by generating
ideas from their group mates;
• each group will be having 5 minutes to finish their works;
• the last group who finished will be the first group to report
their work; and
• the teacher will be given 10 minutes to finish the whole task.

EXPLORE:

• The teacher will divide the class with the same group;
• each group will be given a sliced pizza;
• students must answer the questions of teacher by
subtracting the sliced pieces of pizza; Teacher will asked the following:
1. 7/8 - 5/8 = ?
2. 5/8 - 2/8 = ?
3. 7/8 - 4/8 = ?
4. 8/8 - 3/8 = ?
5. 4/8 - 2/8 = ?

• the group who will have the highest score will be declared as
winner;
• and the teacher will be give 15 minutes to do the task.

EXPLAIN

• The teacher will introduce the new terminologies relating the topic
including numerator, denominator and similar fraction;
• teacher will demonstrate process of Subtraction of
Similar
Fractions; and
• explain how does the recent activities related to the lesson.
ELABORATIONS:
• The teacher will ask the students to draw their own pizzas and
divide it with different amount of slices; and  relate those pizza on
the Subtraction of Fractions.
• each students must draw four different pizzas.
• the task must done in 20 minutes.

EVALUATION

• The teacher must have a graded recitation.


• The teacher will ask three students to give a summarization of the
lesson.
• the recitation must take 15 minutes.
