Rational Statement:
This artifact is about 3 different interviews with unique educators who have
stated the importance of connections and relationships with both their students and
their own colleagues. These interviews relate back to standard 2.iii.2 “ The teacher
respects learners as individuals with different personal and family backgrounds and
various skills, abilities, perspectives, talents, and interests.” (Professional Development
in New Jersey, 2014,p.3) and standard 2.iii.3 “The teacher makes learners feel valued and
helps them learn to value each other.” (Professional Development in New Jersey,
2014,p.3) Standard 2.iii.2 and 2.iii.3 both focus on the importance of connecting and
creating relationships with your students to create a safe and successful learning
environment. In the interview each educator mentioned that they tried their best to
create connections to their students and make sure that they were comfortable to share
their own opinions and thoughts with each other.
As a future teacher, learning from these interviews was fascinating because these
educators shared personal experiences and gave amazing advice to upcoming teachers.

Educators Jeff Dunker and Pete Barra’s both mentioned the importance of connecting
with their students and shared their experiences with the struggles they had while
teaching virtually. The last educator Mellisa Morris spoke about her wish to connect all
teachers from different worlds to work together because to her music can heal and
create peace. It is a universal language and all cultures share music.
In the future, I can refer back to these interviews and hopefully realize that
becoming a teacher and all my struggles now are worth it. These interviews can help me
remember my passion for teaching and to keep in mind that educators are the key to
helping future generations of students change and make the world a better place.
