CLASSROOM OBSERVATION (OBS):

In each observation, all components for which there is observed evidence must be rated. Each form must
contain lesson-specific evidence for each of the components observed during a classroom observation.

This observation was: (check one)

Formal Observation (full period) Informal Observation (15 minutes minimum)

Date of Observation: 04/05/2022 Time/Period: 1:08 PM

Component Ratings

1a (obs): Demonstrating knowledge of content and pedagogy 4- Highly Effective

"The teacher cites intra- and interdisciplinary content relationships. The teacher’s
plans demonstrate awareness of possible student misconceptions and how they
can be addressed."

The teacher highlights common misconceptions and explains the reasoning behind
most people's thinking. Also, the teacher connects to real-world scenarios and how
to live a healthy lifestyle. For example, the teacher compared air pod pros vs.
airline headphones. They both do the same thing, but the air pod pros will deliver
the best sound quality. The same applies to food, and you should intake healthier
and better quality nutrients.

1e (obs): Designing coherent instruction 4- Highly Effective

"Activities permit student choice. Learning experiences connect to other
disciplines." (Danielson)

The students were permitted to select the answer that best fits the question posed
as TRUE or FALSE. In addition, students were asked to share out there thoughts
related to other disciplines.

2a: Creating an environment of respect and rapport 4- Highly Effective

"The teacher respects and encourages students’ efforts."(Danielson)

There was no disrespectful behavior among students during the observation. The
teacher has established an environment that promotes mutual respect.

2d: Managing student behavior 4- Highly Effective

"The teacher silently and subtly monitors student behavior." (Danielson)

Last Revised: 05/30/22 10:19:04 PM By mojeda3

Student behavior was entirely appropriate. The teacher has established classroom
management rules and regulations.

3b: Using questioning and discussion techniques 4- Highly Effective

"The teacher builds on and uses student responses to questions in order to
deepen student understanding. Students invite comments from their classmates
during a discussion and challenge one another’s thinking. Virtually all students are
engaged in the discussion." (Danielson)

The teacher designed an activity to be executed by a group of students and

initiated discussions related to the topics. Students were engaged in conversations
and shared their personal experiences to determine whether the statement was
TRUE or FALSE.

3c: Engaging students in learning 4- Highly Effective

"Virtually all students are intellectually engaged in the lesson. Lesson activities
require high-level student thinking and explanations of their thinking." (Danielson)

The activity engaged students in discussion, and it prompted students to

brainstorm and share their experiences to answer the TRUE or FALSE prompt.

3d: Using assessment in instruction 4- Highly Effective

" The teacher is constantly “taking the pulse” of the class; monitoring of student
understanding is sophisticated and continuous and makes use of strategies to
elicit information about individual student understanding. Students monitor their
own understanding, either on their own initiative or as a result of tasks set by the
teacher." (Danielson)

After every TRUE or FALSE prompt, the teacher reviewed the answer and
provided additional reasoning based on students' responses and reactions. Then,
students worked together to answer the TRUE or FALSE prompt by sharing their
understanding and experiences.

4e (obs): Growing and developing professionally 4- Highly Effective

"The teacher takes an active leadership role in professional organizations in order
to contribute to the profession." (Danielson)

Throughout the school year, the teacher has taken on leadership roles that have
benefited our students and contributed to Edison's school's spirit.

Additional Evaluator Notes (please attach more pages, as necessary):

Ms. Carey,

I observed class on Tuesday, April 5th, 2022.

Commendation(s):

- Designing a lesson that relates to the real world. Therefore, allowing students to analyze their current habits
and lifestyle related to making better health choices.

- Incorporating an activity that initiated discussions among students that led to sharing their experiences to
solve the TRUE or FALSE prompt.

- Involving virtually every student in the lesson through participation, discussion, and group work activities
related to living a healthier lifestyle.

I look forward to observing your class again in the near future.

Sincerely,
Moses A. Ojeda
