Additional Evaluator Notes (please attach more pages, as necessary):

On Monday, January 2, 2019 I observed an ELA lesson you conducted with class 670. The following is an
account of that observation.
Learning Objective: I can read Paragraphs 20-23 of the Steve Jobs speech closely in order to answer text
dependent questions.
Standards: RI.6.1, RI.6.2

As I entered you were rereading a question and waiting on a volunteer to respond. You paused a few
moments and asked, "What rule is Steve Jobs talking about?" Naila replied, "He's saying don't focus on
others." Nodding, you said, "Right. Steve Jobs is suggesting that you focus on your own life." You read the
next few paragraphs as students followed along. You paused and asked clarifying questions during your
reading. Post reading you directed students to turn and talk about how Steve Jobs came to that rule. As
students engaged you circulated asking open-ended questioning that furthered their pair and share
discussions.

After listening in on Princess and Omar's discussion, you asked, "What does he means by 'Your time is
limited'?" Omar replied, "He means you don't have long to live." You asked why might he have said that.
Princess responded, "I think he said it because he was sick and close to dying. You circulated to another
group and listened in on their discussion before asking them to summarize paragraph 20 and 21. You
encouraged students to reread as necessary and to take notes as they read. I will visit again in late January.
