WING 1103: CNG Technician Training

January 2021 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)

DESCRIPTION

This training provides students with the essential theoretical knowledge related to the natural gas for vehicles
installation code B109-14. The course will prepare students to write the Vehicle Conversion (CNG – Compressed
Natural Gas) certificate of qualification licensing examination administered by Technical Safety BC (TSBC). In
addition to theoretical knowledge, students will inspect, diagnose, service, and repair natural gas (CNG) powered
vehicles. A training manual is included in the course. For details about the Technical Safety BC licensing

conversion-cng All registrants who wish to complete the licensing certification are advised to check the
qualifications (prerequisites) to write the exam directly with TSBC. Applicants must book their own exam outside of
this training course. This course is recognized as acceptable training for the pressure fuels endorsement on a
commercial vehicle inspectors license.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Describe CNG fuel systems and properties of natural gas.


Use the B109-14 - Natural Gas For Vehicles Installation code.
Describe CNG fuel storage containers, container mounting, and container ventilation.
Remove and install CNG fuel containers and fuel system components.
Describe CNG fuel system component requirements, CNG vehicle inspection, testing and decaling
requirements.
Describe CNG vehicle service, collision repair and fuel container retesting.
Service CNG fuel system components.
Review operation of CNG fuel system components.

Describe CNG engine subsystems and diagnostic equipment for CNG vehicles.
Diagnose and repair simulated CNG fuel system faults.
