IX.

 Preheating shall be performed only by purchaser approved.

 Temporary attachments such as clamps, lugs and other devices to assist in erection may be
attached to the tank plates by welding provided when removing such attachments’ from
shell plates. The attachment shall be burned 3 mm to 6 mm proud of the plate surface, or
alternatively, weaken the securing weld by chipping or gouging, taking care not damage the
parent plate and knock off the attachment. The resultant scar shall then be ground to a
smooth profile, ensuring no under flushing of the plate surface occurs. After removing
temporary attachments and grounding, location shall be checked by liquid penetrate or
magnetic particle test.

 Erection holes shall not permitted in plate work

 The dome roof shall not have depressions that will permit accumulation of water.

 On all lap joints the plates shall be held in close contact during the welding operation. The
surfaces where the weld metal is to be applied shall be thoroughly cleaned to bare metal
before assembling.

 Painted or stenciled markings shall not be applied until the priming coat is thoroughly dry.

 The workmanship and finish shall be such that all requirements of the above said
stipulations are met and shall be subject to close inspection by the erector whether or not
the Purchaser’s/Owner’s waives any part of his own inspection.

8. INSPECTION AND TEST

8.1. Non-Destructive Examination

8.1.1. Shop inspection of materials shall be in accordance with Section 6 of API 620 Standard.
Inspection of welding joints shall be in accordance with Section 7 and Appendix R&Q of
API 620 standard.
8.1.2. Main materials for storage tanks shall be verified to be conforming to the specified
materials by mill certificates. The certificate shall include the chemical analysis of each lot of
heat of material and a statement that it has been tested in accordance with and meets the
physical requirements of the applicable specifications.
8.1.3. Supplementary requirements are as follows:
 Filler material shall be certified according to ASME II C.

 After post weld heat treatment a Brinell hardness tests shall be carried out on longitudinal
and circumferential joints. At least 10 reading shall be carried out. The results shall be
recorded on the applicable welding procedure specifications.

 The acceptable maximum values shall be following the code.
- NDE examination shall be according to API 620
- NDE shall be performed according to ASME V
- NDE personnel shall be qualified according to SNT-TC-1A
 When required by Table R-2 from API 620 standard, Charpy V-notch impact tests of weld
and heat affected zones, shall meet the minimum requirements specified for the base
material. Results of Charpy Impact Test shall be approved by Purchaser/Owner.

 After removal of temporary backup rings or strips, the weld area shall be examined using

 The inner fillet weld from inside/external bottom to inner/outer shell joints shall be inspected
prior to welding the outside filled weld. Inner fillet welds shall be examined for cracks, using
either magnetic particle or a liquid penetrate.

 Tank bottom welds shall be tested as specified in section 7.18.2.4 of API 620 standard. All
bottom welds shall be tested before tank hydrostatic water filling.

 Non radiograph able joints shall be checked by liquid penetrate or magnetic test.

8.1.4. Contractor shall approve in advance the qualification certificates of all welders and operators to

marking

8.1.7. Before the shell and roof insulation is applied the inner and outer tanks should fully tested and
the tank should be clean and dry. Insulation materials should be maintained in a clean and dry
condition.

8.2. Hydrostatic Testing

8.2.1. Generally hydro test of tanks shall be done in accordance to API 620. Hydrostatic test of the
tank shall be conducted before tank insulation, painting works and permanent external piping
is connected to the tank. The tank shall be filled with test water up to the maximum liquid level
stipulated in the design calculation sheet or drawings. Potable water is preferred for hydro-
testing. Anyway, the maximum admissible chloride contents in hydrostatic water test shall be
considered as follows:
