LEARNING OBJECTIVE By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
1. Learn/ revise words related to sport and competitions
2. Discuss the sports they do
ACTIVITIES PRE-LESSON Books closed. Teacher writes sport on the board. Teacher puts
students into pairs. Teacher asks them to make alist of all the
sports they know in English. Teacher sets a time limit of 2 minutes.
The pair with the most sports wins.
LESSON DELIVERY Activity 1 (SB page 84)
1. Students read the words in the word pool. Teacher makes
sure they understand all the words. If necessary, ask them
to translate into their language. Teacher plays the CD.
Students listen to the words and repeat them.
2. Teacher makes sure they pronounce the words correctly
with the correct stress, especially tournament and
opponent.
3. Students work individually and answer the question. They
compare answers in pairs. Teacher checks answers as a
class.
Activity 2 ( SB page 84)
1. Teacher explains the task. Students work individually and
fill the gaps in the photo diary using words from exercise
1. They compare answers in pairs.
Activity 3 (SB page 84)
1. Teacher plays the CD. Students listen and follow the text in
their books. They check their answers to exercise 2.
Activity 4(SB page 84)
1. Teacher explains the task. Teacher read the example
sentences aloud to the class. Students work individually
and write four sentences. Teacher listens to some students
as a class.
Activity 5 (SB page 84)
1. Teacher nominates 2 students to read aloud the example
question and answer to the class. Teacher elicits the
questions for the prompts from the class. Teacher put
students into pairs. They ask and answer the questions.

1. Recognise with support attitudes or opinions in simple longer texts on a range of
familiar topics
2. Understand with little or no support longer sequences of classroom instructions
ACTIVITIES PRE-LESSON
LESSON DELIVERY 1. Find a listening where there is a discussion or dialogue where
people express their opinions.
2. Write down the topic or topics that are discussed and ask the
pupils for their ideas or what they know about the topic.
3. Give the names of the people in the discussion and write up a
few key words on the board which summarise the opinions of
those people, e.g. agrees with this/disagrees with this; loves
this/hates this etc.
4. Tell the pupils to listen to the discussion and match the person
with their reaction.
5. Play the audio then let pupils discuss in pairs or threes.
6. Check answers.
7. Tell the pupils to listen again and this time pick out any words
that helped them decide on how the person felt.
8. Play the audio and let them check their ideas in their
pairs/groups.
9. Elicit their ideas. Also pick up on any intonation or
pronunciation that helped to identify how the person was feeling
and replay the audio to show the pupils.
10. Ask the pupils to role play the discussion using some of the
phrases they heard.
