Abigail Floriano-Monarrez, also known as Abby, died Friday, Nov.

4, 2020, at Catawba Valley

Medical Center in Hickory. She passed away due to an encounter with a group of cats. She was

deathly allergic to cats and her allergic reaction was too severe for medical personnel to treat her.

Abigail was born May 12, 1999, in Roanoke, Virginia, to Eduardo Floriano-Mejia and Virginia

Lorena Monarrez-Cardoza. Abigail is survived by her siblings, Jocelyn Floriano-Monarrez and

Erland Floriano-Monarrez. She is also survived by her parents Eduardo Floriano-Mejia and

Virginia Lorena Monarrez-Cardoza.

Abigail at a young age was very intrigued with building things due to her father always having a

building project. She would often be seen outside, wielding a hammer, creating something with

the help from her dad. She was very close to her family, especially her sister, Jocelyn Floriano-

Monarrez. She would always hang out with her and let her know she would be there for her.

Abigail graduated from Bunker Hill High School and attended Catawba Valley Community

College and Catawba College. Abigail was mostly called by her nickname Abby by all her

friends, family, co-workers, and instructors. She was working on her bachelor’s degree in

psychology before her passing. She was very focused in her studies and tried to always strive for

the best work she could put out. Abby was very passionate about psychology and eventually

wanted to become a counselor for an elementary school. She was even working in the afterschool

program of her old elementary school because she wanted to gain experience working with

children.

Abigail had a passion for caring for animals. She was very enthusiastic when it came to caring

for them and making sure an animal had the best life they could live. She also treated others with

the same attitude. Abigail would always check in with friends and family and let them know that

she would be there for them, in the good times and bad. She had a caring and helpful soul and
that made her want to go on the path of eventually becoming a counselor. She loved being there

for others and she touched many lives with her generosity and passion for life.
