In the face-to-face tutorial, we have introduced to you one out of numerous templates that can be applied into VSTEP
Speaking part 2. Today, in this post, we would like to provide you with two more templates that you can refer to when
taking the VSTEP exam.
Question: Your friend is going to England for a year and you want to buy her a going-away present. Three items are suggested:
a camera, an English grammar book and a sweater. Which one would be the best choice?

1. Template 1

Opening: start naturally + paraphrase topic sentences + mention your choice

Body:
Step 1: talk about the strength and weakness of A
Step 2: talk about the strength and weakness of B
Step 3: talk about the strength and weakness of C
Closing: restate your choice

2. Template 2

Opening: start naturally + paraphrase the topic sentences + mention your choice

Body:
– talk about the strengths of B and C
– talk about the weaknesses of B and C
– talk about the strengths of A
– talk about the weaknesses of A => come up with the solutions to A’s problems
Closing: restate your choice

3. Template 3 (introduced in face-to-face tutorial)

Opening: Start naturally + paraphrase the topic sentences + mention your choice
Body:
Criterion 1:
– the strength(s) of A
– the weakness(es) of B and C
Criterion 2:
– the strength(s) of A
– the weakness(es) of B and C
Closing: Acknowledge A’s drawbacks + Restate your choice

Below are some part 2’s questions for further practice:

1. A friend is going to take a summer job where she can meet new people. Three jobs are suggested: a volunteer
nurse, a tour guide and a sale employee at bakery. Which one would be the best choice?
2. Your friend is going to England for a year and you want to buy her a going-away present. Three items are
suggested: a camera, a English grammar book and a sweater. Which one would be the best choice?

3. A group of friends are going to celebrate the end of exams. Three locations are suggested: a pool, a party club and
a bowling station. Which would be the best choice?

4. You and your friend are planning to go away on a week’s holiday. Three places are suggested: a cruise, an African
safari and a camping site.

Trước tiên các em cần biết phần nói Part2 có tổng thời gian là 4 phút:         

1. 1 PHÚT CHUẨN BỊ

-         Trong 15s đầu chọn nhanh mô ̣t lựa chọn mà mình có thể nói được nhiều ý
tưởng nhất. (Sự lựa chọn có nhiều từ vựng, nhiều ý tưởng để nói, không nhất
thiết là phải chọn theo đúng sở thích)

-         Tìm ra 2-3 ưu điểm cho sự lựa chọn đó và nhược điểm cho mỗi sự lựa chọn
còn lại.

2. 2 PHÚT TRÌNH BÀY

Chia bố cục bài nói làm 3 phần:

-         Mở bài:Trình bày theo quan điểm của mình chọn tình huống nào với mấy lí
do.

From my point of view/in my opinion, I’d much prefer +N for 2/3 reasons
 -         Thân bài:Nêu lần lượt từng lí do và giải thích tại sao lại chọn nó. Kết hợp
dùng nhiều từ nối khiến cho bài nói trở lên logic và mạch lạc.

First of all + lý do 1

For example/ I mean + giải thích lý do 1

Moreover/Besides, lý do 2

In fact, giải thích lý do 2

Finally, lý do 3 (nếu có)

To explain this, giải thích lý do 3 (nếu có)

-         Kết bài:Tóm tắt lại ý mình chọn

3. 1 PHÚT PHẢN BIỆN

Trước khi trình bày bất lợi mà đã chuẩn bị, các em cần có những cụm từ thể hiê ̣n
sự lịch sự để cho giám khảo biết em vẫn rất tôn trọng ý kiến của họ:
