Name of Educator: Veronica Santos

Grade Level and 12th grade

Discipline:

Duration of Lesson: This lesson will last two class periods long.

Location/Environment: The location for the assignment is at the school and

in the educator’s classroom. Students can do part of
this assignment spread out for comfort but if they
type better at a desk then they may remain in one.
Part of the assignment may be done at home if they
need more time.

Materials Needed: - Google slides: To create their own slideshow

presentation that covers the content that they
learned through their research.
- ppresentation
- Ebsco Host : To locate journal articles to
gather research from to form a paper and
presentation and brochure.
- CultureGrams :To conduct more research for
the paper, presentation and brochure.
- Google docs : To type their project paper.
- Canva : To create their brochure over the
place of their choosing.
- atoztheworld database : To conduct research
for the brochure, paper and presentation.
- A camera to record and a laptop to type.

1. Instructional: Given instruction and

Objectives: guidelines, the student-groups will be able
to/understand . . .
(You should include at
how to locate journal articles and use different
least one Instructional and databases in order to gather research on the
one Behavioral objective) place of their choosing. They will learn how to
locate cites that are trustworthy. They will
gather and record their search.

2. Behavioral: Because of . . . ,

the students will be able to . . . form their

project paper which they will also create a
powerpoint presentation over inorder to
summarize and share the information that
they gathered with the rest of the class. Each
student will also create a brochure that could
summarize the culture for anyone who may
consider traveling to that location.

1. Induction (Transition from previous activity;

Procedure: gain students’ attention):

(explicit, specific, detailed I will show my students a powerpoint presentation

steps 1,2,3) example. We will discuss how each of them will need
to think of a couple places that they would be willing
to research. Then I will use a random name
generator on my laptop to generate who will be
called first to give their choice as each place will be
crossed off after chosen so that there are no
repeats.

I will then explain to my students step by step how to

access the databases to gather journal articles and
other information that is available for their research. I
will explain to my students that wikipedia is not an
options, that the sources could be fairly recent (like
the last 10 years) and then I will show them some
tips on how to tell if a source is going to be one that
is reliable, using:Purdue Owl and maybe another
website if I can locate a better one.
2. Sequence of Lesson: (include instructional
strategies)

The students will be instructed to locate 3

sources to begin with and to submit them for
with a small paragraph explain them for
review. Once they get the clear on their
sources and citation format then they are
clear to gather more. They should at least
have 6 sources:

● At least two need to be a e-book

● 2 -3 can be journal articles and they can use
any other reliable sources that they would
like. After gathering their research then they
will begin their paper. Due to the time limit
students will be asked to type a two page
paper. They can earn extra credit for longer.

After this they will take the important information and

make a powerpoint that is at least ten slides long.
The slides should show some creativity. Things like
color changes, transitions, links, images, etc.

3. Closure (Recap highlights of lesson; connect

to next lesson):

The students will use canvas to come up with a

brochure with the most important information that a
traveler would like to know and this should show
images and creativity as well. The students will not
present their entire slides in class but they will be
asked to take a video recording of their presentation
which they will submit for their classmates to watch
as homework. Then they will come prepared to ask
eachother questions on their places of choice.
Assessment of Learning How will you know if students learned? How will you
measure learning?

Students will be able to describe aspects of the

culture of the place they chose like the appearance
of the people there, the language, the religion,
customs, greetings, and more. They will also be able
to give information about the way that the area looks
and it’s climate, housing and more.

- Students will be able to summarize their

findings and explain the significance of
knowing the things that they have found. They
will be able to educate their classmates on
these findings while also being creative with
the technology that they are asked to use.
- I will know if the students learned if they have
the information that I mentioned above on
their location and if they are able to present a
well written research paper, with completed
and reliable sources in the correct format and
if they are able to creatively put together and
informational powerpoint and answer a few
short questions on their presentation content.

Assessment of Teaching What reflective questions will you ask yourself after
the lesson to determine whether it was successful?

- Were my students able to understand how to

locate reliable sources?
- Were my students able to correctly format
these sources?
- Were my students able to take the research
that they found and create a paper that
reflects the research but also explains the
reason of their finding being so significant?
- Were my students able to navigate google
docs, google slides and canva?
- Were they able to get creative and show their
knowledge of how to use the technology?
- Were they able to answer questions from both
the audience and myself?
- Were they able to deliver their research
presentation without having to stare at each
slide and read it off?

Application of Technology: How does this lesson integrate or use technology in

a meaningful way for students?

-Students will be using technology in every aspect of

this assignment. They will use technology to access
journal articles, database’s, and other trustworthy
sources to gather their research on a specific place
of their choosing. Then they will use google docs to
write a project paper that explains their findings and
the importance of their findings. This will be a
research paper, so they will need to stick to facts
and have sources to support their paper. Then the
students will use google slides to create a
powerpoint presentation that summarizes their
findings and the significance of those findings for
them to present to their classmates. After having
completed both the paper and the presentation of
the papers content. The last thing that students will
be ask to do is to use canva to create a creative
brochure that summarizes what a traveler would
need to know about the place they chose and the
culture.
