What is the difference between self-evaluation and peer evaluation?


Self Assessment
Self Assessment is an assessment which allows students to assess their own
performance. It can be extremely valuable in helping students develop self-reflection,
critique and judgment and ultimately, students learn how to be responsible for their
own learning. Self assessments are more often used as part of a formative
assessment process, rather than a summative one.
Advantages of Self Assessment

• Encourages students to critically reflect their own learning progress and performance
• Encourages students to be more responsible for their own learning
• Helps students develop their judgmental skills
Disadvantages of Self Assessment

• Self assessment can be subjective because students may not be sincere and may even
over-evaluate their own performance
• Time consuming for students
• Students may not be familiar with the assessment criteria
Peer Assessment
Peer Assessment is an assessment which allows students to assess each other's
performance. It can be extremely valuable in helping students to learn from each other
by listening, analyzing and problem solving. It gives students the opportunity to
encounter diversity in different ways, critique and judge and ultimately,
students learn how to be responsible for their own learning.
Advantages of Peer Assessment

• Encourages students to critically reflect each others� work


• Encourages students to be involved in the assessment process
• Helps students develop their judgmental skills when they assess the work of other group
members
Disadvantages of Peer Assessment

Peer pressure and friendship can influence the reliability of grades given by students
Students may have a tendency to give everyone the same mark (for example, there may be
collusion in return for good grades)
Students are not experienced in assessing each other

How can we maintain conciseness within a technical document with reference to 7 Cs of


Communication?
Conciseness is the extent to which a piece of writing communicates clear information in as few
words as possible. One good way to think about conciseness is to think about what,
You must find a way to 'lighten' what you're saying by using fewer, clearer
words.Conciseness means using the least amount of words to get your message across.
Conciseness requires you be economical is your word choice.
• Start sentences with the subject. This is both a grammatical point and a content point.
• Use the active verb.
• Get rid of adverbs and reduce your adjectives.
• Use the shortest form of the word.
• Use the shortest form of a phrase
• Don't refer back.

Describe the structure of an email in order to clarify how it is different from a letter.
Mention both similarities and differences.

email or electronic mail is a way to communicating and a method of exchanging messages
byusing electronic devices and internet. Whereas letters are also a way of communicating as
itintegrates physical presence of a paper or any other medium and is to be send via post and
othermeans.
General structure of E-mail:
There is a standard structure for emails. Email contents are primarily classified as two,
theheader and the body. We are going to see the contents come under the two subparts.
The Header:
The header contains the key information of the sender and the recipient. It is the most important
part of an e-mail and it comprises of:1. Subject
2. Sender (From)
3. Date and time
4. Reply to
5. Recipient (To)
6. Recipients E-mail
7. Attachments
The Body:
This is the part of the e-mail where the information regarding the mail is stored. It can be in
paragraph form, points or any other way. The body of the e-mail can be
automated/automaticallygenerated or typed. The style may vary as there are many
platforms
.General Structure of Letter:The structure if the letter are slightly different and has many style of
writing. Mainly there are two types of letters we have come so far, which are
:1. Formal Letters
2. Informal Letters
Both of the letters have a distinctive way of writing and uses. Discussing the main parts of a
formal letter it resembles the informal/personal letter but has some distinctive points
which are:
1. Address (sender’s and receiver’s
)2. Date
3. Salutation
4. Subject
5. Body text
6. Ending
Looking into Informal letters the format is somewhat same but somewhere it has some
differences which are:
1. Date
2. Address
3. Salutation and Name
4. Introduction
5. Body
6. Closure
7. Signature/signoff
Similarities in structure of E-mails and Letters
: Both mediums are used to communicate
. They can be sent to people known or unknown.
 Both mediums have Informal and Formal categories.
 Mostly people write them
Differences between Emails and Letters
Letters
It requires a valid stamp and a post office to send and receive.
Requires electronic device and internet connection.
It may take time to get a letter usually days or months and sometimes years
emails
It is very quick and takes minutes to send and receive
It is written on paper or any other medium.
These are digitally writes on computers, laptops and tablets

Question 4[10 marks, CLO 4]

Suppose that vacancies have been announced for the post of Lab Engineer in Electrical
engineering department at all campuses of COMSATS University. Compose a ‘Cover
letter’ to Head of Department of your campus to express your interest for the announced
positions with your educational qualification, lab skills, and future plans. The letter should
have a proper introduction which clarifies your purpose of writing this letter, followed by
discussion (that outlines as to what specific skills and capabilities make you better than the
rest of the applicants) and conclusion to make the space for an interview call.
