ME Special Topics – Statics of Rigid Bodies

MECHANICS
- Science that describes and predicts the conditions of rest, or of motion, of bodies as
acted upon by forces.

ENGINEERING MECHANICS
- Focused on the mechanics of solids, particularly rigid bodies, and is composed of two
parts; statics and dynamics.

STATICS
- The study of bodies at rest or in equilibrium.

DYNAMICS
- The study of bodies in motion under the action of forces.

PARTS OF DYNAMICS
1. Kinematics – treats of the motion of bodies without considering the forces which cause
the motion.
2. Kinematics – considers the effects of forces on the bodies.
