LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the session, the students must able to:
A. Identify the steps in evaluating algebraic expressions
B. Apply the steps in evaluating algebraic expressions
C. Show appreciation in working with group activity

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Evaluating Algebraic Expression

Reference: E-Math by Orlando A. Oronce and Marilyn O. Mendoza Instructional, page
186 - 189
Materials: PowerPoint presentation, laptop

III. INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURE

A. Daily Routine
 greetings
B. Priming/Activating Prior Knowledge
1. Drill
Find the answer to the following multi operation mathematical expression by connecting
the expression in column A to the corresponding answer in column B.

Answer:

2. Review
How do we solve multi operation mathematical expression?
 We solve multi operation mathematical expression by following the rules of
PEMDAS
And what does PEMDAS stand for?
 Parenthesis, Exponent, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction.
NOTE: We solve multi operation expression by following the operation order of
Parenthesis, Exponent, Multiplication, Division, Addition, and Subtraction.

C. Motivation
I will be using the “think of a number”

D. Presentation of the Lesson

I will be present the Power Point the discussion will be Evaluating Algebraic
Expression
LEARNING TASK
1. Activity
The teacher will present a PowerPoint presentation of the activity “Sub me in”).
Let A=1 H=8 O=15 V=22
B=2 I= 9 P= 16 W=23
C=3 J=10 Q=17 X=24
D=4 K=11 R=18 Y=25
E=5 L=12 S=19 Z=26
F=6 M=13 T=20
G=7 N=14 U=21
Find the equivalent value of the given words by substituting the numerical value above
to each letter of the word and adding all the numerical digits.
For example
H U M B L E
8 + 21 + 13 + 2 + 12 + 5 = 61
Now try the first word?
KNOWLEDGE
For the second word.
HARDWORK
How about the last word?
ATTITUDE
2. Analysis
What did we do in our activity?
 We find the numerical value of the given words.
How did we find the value of the given words?
 We substitute the corresponding value in each letter.
 Next, we perform the indicated operation, we add all the value.
Class, when a number is substituted or replace for the variable in a given algebraic
expression, the expression takes a numerical value. And finding the value is what we
call “Evaluating the Algebraic Expression”.
3. Abstraction
In evaluating algebraic expressions, what are the steps that we need to follow?
1. Substitute the given value to the variable.
2. Perform the indicated operation by following the rules of PEMDAS.
4. Application
The class will be divided into two (2) groups. Each group will do their task given by the
teacher.
 Group 1 Find the value of each expression and write the answer in the circle.
When x = 5
 Group 2 Find the value of each expression and write the answer in the circle.
When x = 7

The group activity will be scored according to this standard.

IV. Evaluation
Complete the table by evaluating the given expression.
